  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

American cops: shoot first, even in a toy store....

just a bit off topic.

Why are toy guns a good thing?
Shouldn't they all be banned? because adults can make all the choices for kids you know.

Telstra, don't you have a YouTube video to be commenting on?

Yes, since 1992. So any toy gun in a store is going to have that.

.

actually since the Federal Energy Management Improvement Act of 1988 (PL 100-615)
...scroll down to section 4 and click on the "5001" link

(2)The Secretary of Commerce may provide for an alternate marking or device for any toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm not capable of being marked as provided in paragraph (1) and may waive the requirement of any such marking or device for any toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm that will only be used in the theatrical, movie or television industry.

(3)The Secretary is authorized to make adjustments and changes in the marking system provided for by this section, after consulting with interested persons.

WTF is the matter with everyone these days?

It's the NRA mentality these days that guns and violence are the answer. I'm not disparaging the second amendment...it's the let's arm everyone and shoot 'em up thought pattern that seems to be so pervasive in the country. Meet violence with greater violence. It's indicative of an extremist disease infecting the country and world. It's infected our politics, our public officials and our society. The police wield power not serve the people and the people retaliate with anger and violence. Violence gets attention from the media and that provokes more violence. It's an evil cycle of self destruction.

"Put down your weapons. Those who live by sword, die by sword".

The toy in question was a Crossman MK-177 air rifle, which has no orange safety tip (presumably because it can shoot BBs).

THAT is a BB gun !?!?! They've evolved since I was a kid.

It's all intentional guys; divide and conquer. Race riots the likes of which you have never seen before are on their way. It was all decided long ago.

Beacuse America is so stupid it refuses to curb the right to bear arms. Therefore every dickhead has to be assumed to be armed and the Police have to assume they are being threatened with a live weapon

No because if that was true we would have seen this behavior all along.

But my view is that instant media coverage ie social media like twitter in a way aids and abets this sort of behavior. Police assumptions are the same as they have always been. In the UK it would be the same too. Your therefore does not follow since the right to bear arms does not mean the right is exercised by any one person dickhead or not.

Your characterization as America being stupid is in itself stupid.

The 911 caller was a racist white guy who put things out of proportions, and it's all his fault. The victim was shopping while black. I'm not joking this shit isn't anything new.

More people have been killed by guns since 1968 in the U.S. up until today than in every war since the revolutionary war over 1,384,000
Guns belong on the hands of the police, military and those that hunt legally. This citizen will never live in the States again. In England guns were banned after a 1996 school shooting and it worked. One of the students in the class was Andy Murray of tennis fame.

If you even bothered to READ the thread before you went into your anti-America rhetoric, which is par for the course with you, you'd know the topic is ABOUT cops KILLING people.

You might as well be an American conservative - the only thing you know is talking points.

On the other hand, if by "local militia" you mean state run National Guard units, I'm OK with that. There are a few scenarios where this equipment being deployed on the streets might be helpful, like if we're under an attack of some kind.

Under attack by whom?

The Canadians would ask permission before invading.
Mexico has been intentionally porous from the Government forever - Obama's bringing them in by the buss loads.
Space Aliens? Ineffective.
Dirty bombs, terrorists, hijacked planes or anguished unloved sniper teenagers in shopping malls and college campuses? Often over before the police even arrive.

Other than the government wanting some way of controlling Americans, what possible reason is there to arm police with military weapons?

None at all, but what's the issue with arming the National Gaurd with them? I didn't see you give any in your post.

I don't have a problem with the National Guard/Military having them... I think we should protect our borders.

I'm for the right to bear arms. I think people have the right to defend themselves, their property, their loved ones, and I believe it's what our forefathers had in mind as checks and balances to keep our government from becoming a dictatorship - defending ourselves from our government if need be. ... or in the event of some 'invasion', citizens could stand up and defend the country.

... but as I said before, taking our guns away, and giving their people military grade weapons scares the hell out of me and seems like an imminent attack from within preparation.

Totally agree.

The problem here was twofold:

1) The police were too eager to accept the authority of a 911 caller who identified himself as an ex-marine and an authority on firearms.

2) The suspect was shopping while black

The behavior of the 911 caller, Ronald Richie, was bizarre. Richie claimed Mr. Crawford to be threatening shoppers with an automatic rifle, but he also claimed during the 911 call that he and his wife were pursuing the suspect through the store. Ronald Richie's wife is too fat to walk, so she was using one of those electric scooters Walmart provides for such purposes. Richie thought their lives were in danger, yet he let his wife pursue a dangerous man through the aisles of Walmart on an electric scooter???

This incident seems to be yet another sad example of racism in America. The Richies felt threatened because the man was young and black. Virtually none of the other shoppers in Walmart saw anything amiss. The only 911 call to the police that night came from the Richies.

The police, in turn, assumed the suspect to be up to no good. He was, after all, a young black man. Of course he was out to kill somebody!

This strikes me as a good place to drop this in:

BB guns are excluded? Wow.

New rule needed!
