American Idol: Season 10

I always figured the finals would be Scotty/James, so close enough IMO.

Just as long as Lauren isn't there, I can accept it...

Scotty is definitely the frontrunner.

Salemite, I would love for you to be right but they really gave Haley the worst spots possible, AND the only critique of the night, AND they made a point of saying, "Everyone won round one...except Haley" which I mean...GOD, could they make it any more obvious that they want her out? Notice they didn't do one of those "This round goes to" for round 2 where Haley clearly gave the best performance. I'd be pleasantly shocked if anyone but Haley goes tomorrow night. The only chance she has is gaining massive underdog support after that massive pile-on.

Once Haley is dutifully dispatched, I can get back to my season-long agenda of eliminating Lauren Alaina. It will be the first time this season I root for the extinction of the women (in spirit of course, since I can't bring myself to actually keep watching those three fools).

Don't you think that could've worked in her favor though? Scaring her fans into action a bit?

I don't think this will make most of you happy, but Lauren's name just went green on DialIdol, which means she's predicted to be safe. James and Haley are still yellow/in danger. Not surprisingly, Haley is at the bottom of the pack.

DialIdol is pretty worthless these days though because of the online and text voting as well as Idol having more phone lines than back when the site was more accurate. For this season, it seems like the raw numbers have been more accurate than DI's official predictions.

Though "The Earth Song" wasn't her best performance, it was still far and above better than James' opening performance of "Don't Stop Believing". I can't believe they wouldn't pan someone for picking like the most karaoke song of the century...if Simon was there he would have said something.
James hasn’t had one piece of true criticism thrown at him by judges during competition :?. Isn't that a first for Idol? I know that if Simon was still there he would have gotten the "bad karaoke" and "“self indulgent” critique at least 3 or 4 times. Plus, James has already had the pimp spot 4 times while Scotty have never had it. I think this season's "manipulation" is the worst piece of junk in the show's 10 year history.

Gave up on Idol. Watching The Voice now. It's fresh, new. I like it.
Ditto I havent watched Idol since Stefano left and I'm diggin The Voice right now. I just wish the battle round shows were a bit longer. I love the judges personally mentoring and the competition aspect. it's pretty fuckin cool to me.

Ooh let's dish the Voice then! I'm enjoying it too. Is there an active thread for it?

I love seeing what variation on Slutty Barbie Xtina will dress up as each week.

I've given up hope for this season. I kinda lost all hope when Pia was eliminated but with the way they screwed over Haley tonight...

She owned the night imo.

It doesn't help Haley to pretend her first song was amazing.

It was a bad song choice that neither fit her voice nor showed it off, and then she sassed the judges. Even in a season of little to no critiques and most being aimed at her, that never goes over well with a huge segment of voters. And fact is, she gave the performance of the night with her second performance, but the first was not as amazing as I see people trying to say.

I don't know if I'm seeing blind/deaf love for Haley or blind/deaf hate for the others.

Guys, this isn't just a singing competition. It's also a popularity contest.

Haley has been unlikable since week one. Throughout the entire season, even as she was delivering great vocal performances, I simply couldn't root for her because she came across as a total bitch. I've said it over and over again this season: "She's not a bad singer... there's just something about her I don't like." I think others feel the same way, because she's clearly the best vocalist left in the competition, but aside from the Idol purists who think that singing is all that matters, no one seems to like her.

The snotty comments and stinky bitch-faces certainly aren't helping her cause. Yes, I know the judges had it coming but that's not the point. Haley should've bit her tongue and accepted their criticisms maturely; maybe squeezed out a few sympathy tears. She doesn't know how to play the game. All she does is radiate "bitch." Her personality will cause her to lose the competition, just as Crystal's personality caused her to lose last year (she seemed "above it all") and Adam Lambert's personality caused him to lose the year before that (arrogant).

There is a Voice thread. Xtina is so fun on the show.

So who is everyone's fav on The Voice?
I dont have a fav. Because all auditions werent shown. But from Xtina's team I like Frenchie. On Cee-lo's I like Vicci. Adam's I like Javier. And I dont remember anyone on Blake's team.

Salemite, I don't necessarily disagree that Haley is just not well liked enough (clearly that's true), but part of that is because of the producers and the judges. Technically, Lauren Alaina should be less liked too. She cries at even the slightest hint of criticism, and comes across as both a moron and a massively entitled baby. Way more so than Haley, and with much less talent to back it up. Yet the show sells this bullshit America's Sweetheart story about her so she manages to avoid any of the flack that Haley gets.

Furthermore, I disagree with two examples in your thesis: Adam and Crystal. I know you didn't care for Adam's singing, but arrogant? Really? To me, the arrogant one that season was Danny Gokey and for that arrogance he lost a (seemingly guaranteed) F2 spot. Let's not diminish the fact that both Crystal and Adam made it to the finals, that's not easy to do if you're not well-liked. The fact is, once you make it to the finals, fans of one team are just going to vote more. And it's not a surprise that the teen girls who have hijacked this show eked out those victories for Kris Allen and Lee Dewyze (and will again for Scotty McCreeery this year).

I keep remembering Syesha Mercado who -- like Haley -- was technically a better singer than a lot of people in the competition, but got unfairly pummeled by the judges each week and had a problem with likability. She too frequented the Bottom Three but managed to make it to Top 3 over the likes of the anointed Jason Castro! I keep hoping Haley can do the same -- especially since she's a much better singer than Syesha and has more personality.

But I'm resigned to the fact that she will likely go tonight, in which case, my watching this show this season will be over (though I will check in with this thread to see who won etc).

I keep remembering Syesha Mercado who... had a problem with likability.

Poor Coretta Scott Mercado and how she likened her Idol career to the civil rights moment. :(

Haley's sassiness/"bitchiness" (which I think people are overblowing -- I doubt Haley gives that much of a fuck about winning this three-ring circus since she's so laid back, whereas Lauren or even James will probably drown in their own tears if they don't win) is one of the main reasons I'm a fan, but I'm the Worster in this outfit so...

Heh, the best part was Syesha totally had an out. This was 2008 and she could have compared the Civil Rights Movement to say Obama's potential/impending historic run, and still net herself sympathy votes. But no, she compared it to...her journey on Idol.

She was strategic enough to shed a few tears though, easily making Randy look like the Big Bad [STRIKE]Black Man[/STRIKE] Wolf and giving herself a free pass to the F3 over Jason Castro. Of course, this time around the comparison is complicated since Haley is more like Jason Castro (i.e. a stoner) and Lauren Alaina is more like Syesha (i.e. a cry-baby with no concept of history).

Oddly, the comparison works since Haley and Lauren will probably go out in the same order that Jason and Syesha did, leaving underage fraubait and a rocker in the finale. Speaking of which...

My face when Lauren survives over Haley tonight.
