I know, it's embarrassing. Some of these leaks needed to be brought to light, but this latest batch on the diplomatic cables is criminally unnecessary.

As I noted in another thread, what is apparent from many of these communiques is that the tradition of sending out lightweights as ambassadors as a reward for them serving as fartcatchers or bagmen during a campaign and expecting them to serve as low level intel ops is inconsistent with the style and approach needed in this century.

Probably because there still are so many medieval regimes wielding great influence, the US is still doing diplomacy as though it were 15th century Europe. Or based on the Cold War 'spy who came in from the Cold' mentality.

It is exactly this kind of back room shit that probably got the US embroiled in the disastrous war in Iraq, much to the delight of the parties like the feudal tribal kingdom of Saud that pushed it in the first place.

If the US and the rest of western democracies learn anything from this, perhaps it will be that it is time to take a different approach to diplomacy and dealing with the countries where it maintains ambassadors.

I'm not upset with him because I fully support the first amendment. It's his right to publish whatever he likes. You cannot abridge that right, or you'll find yourself in a bad situation very quickly.

The person who leaked the documents should be considered a terrorist by virtue of the fact that they may have damaged the ability of the US to conduct diplomacy. There was no altruistic reason to do this, as could be argued about the Iraq war leaks. This was done to harm the US and nothing more.

What is worse? The deeds that were done and then covered up or the person who leaked the info to expose the rotten core of corruption?

If you were powerful enough to cover up your deeds and actually get away with mass murder, how upset would you be to find out that someone leaked out what you did?

Rather than be angry with this guy, why not be angry at the ones responsible for mowing down those people who were wrongly killed? Power is no excuse to exercise your authority ABOVE the law. This man going to jail is not a traitor in my eyes but a hero, standing up for what is right and exposing the filth that we have become.

We seriously need to get our heads on straight and realize what is right and what is wrong. Exposing this corruption was meant to show people how bad things really are on the battlefield in order to allow people to see just how bad it really is. This was meant to make this about humanity, inflict some empathy into our soul. Bradley E. Manning is a hero for showing us what we have the potential to do to one another...and how we have to stop ourselves from becoming too desensitized to the value of human life.


Be angry at the right targets. Stop having a decapitated appreciation (fear) for the government simply because they can hurt you. If this is a shape of things to come, people going to prison for exposing wrong doings, then count me out of the shit storm. I will not fight in a war even if I was drafted, not for this lost cause of perverse power and corruption. I would gladly rot in prison than be a gelded punk shooting other people simply because I am told to do so. I would rather sit down and laugh and share life stories with people than blow up vans filled with people.

It's old news that he's gay.The right wingers are saying he leaked the documents because of his disdain for DADT.

Personally,I think what he did needed to be done.If it helps shed light to the utter futility of the efforts of the deployed servicemembers, all the better.This shit needs to stop and our guys need to come home.NOW.

Our whole involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan is corrupt and needs to be exposed.Instead of being honored,PFC Manning will probably die in prison..
