America's Next Top Model Cycle 14

love the girls this season, especially compared to cycles 7-12 -
they're all leggy, tall, most are rail thin. even the "plus sized" girl this season is stunning - wish she had won cycle 10 over that anna nicole lookalike, whitney. probably best plus sized chick since tocarra - but even tocarra didn't have the model features that alexandra does.

like some of you guys, i also thought gabrielle and naduah would stick around longer, since they're far more modelesque than some of the other girls still in the house. gabrielle was my absolute favorite at casting since she knew some obscure model's name and clearly understood the industry.

but as i thought about it more, i realized - gabrielle is 5'7''. they just had a "short girl" 5'7'' winner last year. so no point in keeping her. let her go on and do her thing in the "real world."

naduah - looked too much like C4 winner naima. a fairer-skinned, better version of naima, but too much like her.

i honestly would be pleased with most of the other girls left in the house winning this competition. i'd even be happy with an alexandra win. my favorite right now is simone (although she needs to lose her pageant shit). but i'm also very excited about raina, crista, and even jessica (which is totally weird since she first struck me as susie homemaker, high school cheerleader, just like C7 Brooke - until i realized just how skinny and how disproportionately tall, relative to her weight and frame, she is). alasia also struck me as hip hop blah, with no industry knowledge, but she totally impressed me at the dance photo shoot. amazing.

i'm glad that tyra had the guts to put some skinny, anorexic-types on the show - which i'm sure she did for the sake of andre leon talley (another great addition to the show and panel). and now that her talk show is going off the air, i'm sure she'll no longer have to put "regular/blah" types (::coughsaleishateyona::ahem) on the show anymore as she'll hopefully no longer have some annoying agenda to push.

also loved the photos shoots so far - especially the balenciaga naked one. that just screams, FASHION.

and i do find it interesting that wilhelmina is back with the model contract.
i get the sense that elite had it with tyra's bullshit and really had it when they realized she was doing a short girl cycle last season.

wilhelmina has one of the top male model divisions, but their womens division has been lacking for several years and certainly isn't up to par with elite or even ford.

that said, i think wilhelmina must be expecting more from tyra - probably because, unlike elite, wilhelmina can't afford to have the "average" models that she's been sending them (cycles 9-12).

so i'll bet wilhelmina and their bitch boy representative sean patterson (who i kind of have a crush on, in a weird way) is really making sure that tyra gets them a great chick who will do their agency some good.

i think nicole from c13 was a great example of that - the most high fashion chick from the short girl season won.

and my feeling (and general hope) is that they hold tyra to the same standard this season - and given who's on the show currently - i get the sense that they will.

real excited about all of these girls - last time i was excited about ALL the chicks, as a whole/group, was cycle 2.

They need America's next top Male Models.

That will be SUPER FUN to watch.

^ that would rock my world. bravo's Make Me a Supermodel had men on it, but i never quite caught on to it (mainly because it was cable, but also because i watched the episodes more to check out the hot guys and when they gave me boners, i had to ignore the chicks and thus didn't give the "modeling" aspect of the show a fair shot)

but yeah, a boy can dream...

ps: yo moephoenix - thanks for starting these antm threads and keeping them alive. i'm off/on these forums sporadically on account of grad school, but always appreciate the antm rants/discussions

they toned down the cheesiness and brought andre leon tally in...i guess she finally realised, there's no point in creating a program that supposedly creates top model and for the past cycles, emphasis was placed on drama rather than girls who made it big in the industry.

i think the only one who came out tops out of that show was toccara, who was featured in vogue italia's historic all-black issue, and she got a huge spread, and she didn't even win.

also, to be honest, we all know andre leon tally's reputation far exceeds his influence. most of the celebs he styled appeared on worst dressed list (remember jennifer hudson?) and he is delegated to his society/lifestyle column in vogue...

she should have asked tonne goodman from vogue to be a judge. at least her style is reflective of vogue.

Total, TOTAL BULLSHIT. Simone was my favorite this cycle, and the prettiest one there. Tyra is full of shit too -- she chose the girl that "gets weaker and weaker every week" over the girl who "is almost there, but needs a little push." The way things are going this cycle, Alaisia's gonna win the whole thing.

Well, at least Simone took everything in stride and didn't sob on her way out. I'm sure we'll see more of her.

^ Agreed. On my first post on this thread, I mentioned that Simone was my hands-down favorite. Thought she was the front-runner.

Definitely was caught by surprise - so I gotta give props to the editors for blind-siding me with that one.

I appreciate Tyra's final words to Simone though - I agree that this industry is made for her. Hopefully she'll score a great contract with Elite or Ford or IMG or something, rather than Wilhelmina.

Maybe Wilhelmina is looking to make a name for itself in the plus-sized market, and that'll be good too because that'll mean an Alexandra-win (who I think is stunning).

but yeah, total bullshit that Simone goes home over - oh i don't know - someone like Angelea (why is she still there?).

the look on the girls' faces when simone left totally read - "WTF?" i bet many of them were thinking, "shit, this must not be as real a modeling competition as i thought..." :)

almost like a back-handed compliment along the lines of, "i normally go for hot guys, but tonight, i pick you."

anyway, now i'm more curious as to what direction this show is going to take -

thx again Moe for all the episode photoshoot uploads - great to be back on the ANTM rant/rave thread -

that's true - andre leon talley does have questionable tastes and is more reputation than substance. yeah, jennifer hudson's space jacket from the oscars was a total faux pas on ALT's part (but i sorta liked it at the time).

but, i'd put my money on ALT's opinion over miss jay's opinion any day (although i love how ridiculous miss jay is and generally appreciate the dude's expertise on runway). so he's a very welcome addition to panel.

Still need to find ep 4 to watch >_>
But great photos Moe. Thank you for the pics.

aww, moe - yeah i loved simone. she just had *it* for me. for some reason i like anslee too (not necessarily as a model, but as an overall confrontational momma type), so when it came down to anslee and simone, i was definitely bummed.

And any girl who comes on this show and goes on and on about her academic endeavors is automatically toast. Tyrant has a history of giving the cold shoulder to a girl with a functioning brain between her ears.

wooord, yo - totally agree. all the smart, academic bitches that make it on the show get eliminated eventually.

oh, tyra: thy jealousy is blinding.

yup, true, alt's opinion does carry some sort of visibillity compared to anyone in the whole show - including tyra's, lol

and i really do hope, they garner some visibility soon cause i love the show but at the rate they were going in the past, no one seemed to care who the winner was...last season's winner was my fav. i knew she was goign to win. :)

but, to just to add it in..i am perplexed at how alasia lasted this long in the competition..she is so so commercial and i really don't see her making it big....

I guess my faves right now are Alasia and Alexandra. Not like any of them will be big time models anyway. The show should be called America's Next Top Vanishing Model.

What's up people? Hey, Moe, miseed me? Lol.

I've been busy lately, but finally I've got time to sit down and bitch my heart out on this forum, lol.

I actually am kind of impressed with the new crops of girls this season with 2 exceptions- Alasia and Angelea, it was obvious the only reasons the girls were in the top 12 was because the producers needed the token 'Bitches' in the house. Look at Angelea during her go-see and during the Covergirl shoot, the girl has as much grace as a walrus. And I have no idea what the judges saw when they pronounced her pictures 2nd best during the nude shoot and the 'mosh' dancing shoot. What the... What are they seeing that I don't?

Coming into this new season, I thought the 2 girls who stood out the most were Gabrielle and Raina. Sure, Ren has that edged out look, but come on, isn't one elyse on the show enough to last us a lifetime? I mean sure, she is arguably the most successful top model alumni so far, but casting her body double is just pitiful... Now Gabrielle, on the other hand- what a fresh, unique look. Too bad they got her booty out faster than you can say 'Hello!' though. Darn the judges to hell!!!!

With Jessica, now I have to admit I was surprised by her. I thought she would be comercial and stereotypical of blondes and all, but her first shoot I was like- Halelujah! She really did surprise me.

At this rate it's going, I'm seeing Raina in the final two, hopefully facing off Jessica or Alexandra or maybe Tatianna, but somehow I get this feeling Jessica's on a downward spiral. And the way the judges are licking her balls, that tranny Angelea might just make it to the top 2.

It's still too soon to say, but we'll see how it goes.

By the way... a VAMPIRE-themed photo-shoot? Really, Tyra? How corny is that? I bet the next shoot she's going to dress the girls up in blue Na'vi costumes as creatures from the planet Avatar...

not sure if anyone said this before but...

brenda = molly ringwald
raina = hilllary rhoda

^ Yes (about Brenda)! She also looks a lot like Cynthia Nixon (Miranda of Sex and the City).

ok thid cycle is turning into complete and utter bullshit. Angelea looks like a preop hooker that someone would get busted picking up in a seedy part of LA. Anslee has permnaet stink face and attitude, Krista has nice bone structure, but looks about 4,000 years old, Brenda won't shut the hell up about her " identity crisis" and see that she actually looks pretty damn good with short hair.. I'm hoping Alasia, Raina, Alexandra & Jessica make top 4.

simone was my pick for the winner, but since she was unceremoniously kicked off, i'm going to take a huge leap here and predict the winner of this cycle: -- alexandra --

i don't know - i'm itchin for a plus-sized model winner that actually has a decent personality and a modelesque look (C10's "bitch"ney does not do plus-sized chicks justice)

but the wilhelmina thing is throwing me off. why, after the short chick cycle, has wilhelmina stayed on and why has elite left?

wilhelmina has a pretty underdeveloped womens board (certainly not up to the level as elite or ford), but i've heard that they have a pretty strong plus-sized models board.

my sense is that wilhelmina is going for the "under-represented" chicks market - ie, the short girls and the plus-sized girls.

C13 winner nicole was a modelesque "short" chick, and alexandra is a very modelesque "plus-sized" chick.

several of the other high-fashion girls left on the show - brenda, jessica, anslee - are all moms.
but in my mind, as awesome as some of them are (jessica), they have a limited shelf-life on the show because they're moms. i mean, when has a mom ever won ANTM?

i hate to say it, but i don't think seventeen would ever be on board with a teen/young mom as their cover girl (i could be wrong). and i don't think a modeling agency would ever want to have a model with a personal life involving anything outside of modeling.

as far as the other girls are concerned:

alasia, surprisingly, can model but isn't a model in person and is 1 year too young to be crowned ANTM

angalea is, well, angalea. she's probably going to be eliminated eventually, but has been entertaining on a non-fashion level

which leaves raina and crista - both have model "potential" and either could possibly be ANTM.

based on antm's race-winner "patterns," crista has the edge since we're due for an african american winner.

but as modelesque as crista is, her personality isn't quite "antm."

so overall - i'm liking alexandra and her chances - and she'd totally fill wilhelmina's womens board needs.

I can't believe they kicked Simone off! (I'm late, I have to watch via internet from China o_O) Did they not see Krista's photo? It was horrible! (But made me laugh xD)

I'll say I think Raina or Alexandra are going to be successful this cycle.

aw, moe - yeah you're right. the race patterns have amounted to every 3rd cycle...

and i definitely agree with your thoughts on the girls so far - alot of them are really just "filler."

so, yeah, i guess it'll probably come down to raina or jessica (who definitely has perfect model proportions). but it's hard to tell. i actually like krista alot too and she may be the surprise winner.

this cycle has gotten a little weird though. it's almost as if they kicked off girls with some good model potential really early on (simone, ren, gabrielle, ... even naduah had some good model potential).

but i still wonder about all these moms in the competition - jessica, brenda, anslee. brenda is gone now, so i wonder about the rest of the moms shelf-life.

honestly, in an industry like this, moms are not as appealing as single women/non-moms who have no obligations outside of being agency minions.

but, then again, we're dealing with tyra's alternate universe where anything goes.

i'm still going with alexandra as my pick, though - only because i really want a plus-sized with REAL model potential to win (C10 whitney - not a model to me).

but did anyone else notice that alexandra was glaringly absent in the blowup this past episode? she was the only girl uninvolved in the fight and wasn't even mentioned by any of the other girls. smart editing, perhaps, to protect the image of the final winner?

i can only hope so.

but also remember - the girl fell TWICE at the rachel roy runway show, but they STILL kept her plus-sized ass on board. that's suspicious to me... but in a good way because i want her to win. ;)

if she doesn't win, i'd still be fine with a jessica, krista, or raina win.
