blah.
probably going to piss people off, but as a long-time, devoted watcher of this show (since cycle 1), i gotta say that this season is just as bad as the ones before, if not worse.
first of all, tyra makes all this fuss about how this is the "high fashion" cycle, but it's clear from the start that this shit is still as arbitrary as all her other cycles - just with fancier photographers and prizes.
in my opinion, kendal - as boring as she was - had the most potential, looked most like a model to me, would've been an inspiration to see on italian vogue (this prize, btw, is ridiculous - um, hello? what about american vogue? why get featured on italy's vogue site and magazine if they're *america's* next top model???)
i wish kendal had won last cycle. she blows krista out of the water. she's a high fashion c6 danielle ("dani"), and i loved danielle. so despite her age, kendal is/was my favorite in the house. so it sucks that they threw her out.
even diane von furstenberg saw plenty of potential in her. but tyra and ALT were pretty much like, you're boring and can't pose - peace out bitch.
they did the same shit to C14 simone, and they've done the same to kendal. such idiots.
so in my mind, this competition is down to the white chicks. sorry to play the race card, but not since C3-C4 has there been a back-to-back black winner... (if you consider Naima black). not to mention (sorry liz-fans), now that kendal's gone, none of the other black chicks in the house are really italian vogue material. they're basically just filler. but i could be wrong...
out of the white chicks, i can only realistically see this competition coming down to either jane-esther-chelsey, none of whom really wow me.
esther has a very new, interesting look, but her boobs are just way too big. so can't really see her winning. but who knows.
jane - plain but modelesque, uppercrust rich-bitch from princeton. she looks like a walking ralph lauren ad. seems like the most likely to win. but she's short.
and chelsey - well, i don't know. if she wins, fine. i love that she's tall, and that gives her some edge over jane - but not that much.
btw, does anyone else find it ironic that tyra WIDENED chelsea's gap after constantly hounding danielle in cycle 6 to CLOSE HER GAP, going off on how a girl with a gap in her teeth could never represent covergirl.
TOTAL BULLSHIT.
or even more obviously ironic, how Liz was "first-call-out" this week, even after ADMITTING she didn't even know the designer she was portraying (how the hell does she not know john galliano), but then tyra REPRIMANDS Jane for not knowing her designer, saying that their elimination might come down to the girl who didn't know her designer.
bullshit.
but, in my mind, that obvious inconsistency makes an even greater case for a Jane-win because maybe tyra just wanted to whip jane into shape so that she'd start studying the industry and designers, etc.
she used a similar scare tactic with C9 saleisha/tootie, when she put her in the bottom 2 with victoria for her tulip photo (which i thought was her best photo), as a "wake-up call" - then kept her and ultimately started sucking her clit before announcing her as winner of C9.
anyway - i digress.
as for ann - i know i'm going to get alot of haters for saying this - but ann doesn't really look like a model to me. sure, she's interesting-looking and unbelievably tall, but her proportions don't really seem appropriate for modeling.
the fact that she's got this whole underdog story is great (i love underdogs), but i personally think C2 shandi was the more superior uglyduckling-to-swan story. and shandi's proportions were better for high fashion than ann's.
i just can't see italian vogue ever agreeing to have ann featured on their glossy pages, so i can't see her as the winner. or imagine her on the runway at milan fashion week? um, she'd stick out like a sore thumb. no designer would ever book her because her sheer height would completely detract from their work/collection.
i could, of course, be wrong, and if i am, tyra will have surprised the hell out of me again.
obviously, i'll keep watching just for that.
