I don't see the fuss either....but then again, I don't see the fuss in 90% of female artists... I'm not really into R&B artists...guess just one unambiguously gay trait I don't seem to possess.

7.25 out of 10? Really? I think she deserves at least an 8. In any case, everyone is entitled to their opinion (even if they're WRONG!!!jk). I happen to appreciate what you're saying, but I don't feel the same. Her voice is like a throwback to 50's era R&B.

I didn't think i'd like her mainly due to her appearance and her constantly being in the papers either pissed, stoned or drug fucked. But back to black has got to be one of my favourite albums of all time and i've only just got it. I don't know what you'd define as a soulful voice but I definately think she has talent and a great voice.

She's got a great voice, and I love the whole 'Back To Black' CD. I listen to it quite often when running. "Soulful' is usually used when describing ethnic singers, so I never consider it when assessing a singer. It tends to segregate, and there's more than enough of that in the entertainment industry (and life in general), so it's less than informative. As for Amy's personal life, I'm not looking for a bestest friend or a role model or a girlfriend. I just want to be entertained, and she succeeds.

If Amy Winehouse doesn't sound "soulful" to you... then what is your definition of "soul"?

To me it sounds like you are trying to equate soul as sounding "black". I've always thought sounding soulful came from singing out your emotions.

Artists as wide-ranging as Bruce Springsteen to Alanis Morrissette to Sting all sing with pure soul. Now if you mean traditional R&B artists, you can hear a "black" sound in everyone from Pink to Robin Thicke to Lisa Stansfield. They aren't trying to duplicate anyone- they just sing from their own soul.:-)
 
Amy Winehouse at the EMAs

I hear that Amy was a late addition to the lineup at the EMAs but I still expected better than this. I love her album but this was extremely...lacking even compared to the general low quality presenting by Snoop Dog and Dave Grohl throughout the EMAs. She "sang" (and I use the term loosely) Back to Black - well the music from that song the lyrics were...well here it is



Halfway through she looks like she wants to walk off! Its just such a shame - it could have sounded like this! #-o



That said her Beehive was looking Fabulous! Maybe she could have used the time it took to prepare that to learn the words? [-X

I just hope she will get the help she desperately needs before it's all too late. Her talent is unmistakable but her demons are overshadowing that at the moment.

It's had me thinking today; and I don't know why..
She does it at every concert..
She's supposidely a coke fiend.. At Eden Project (near me), when she was there, she actually said she was just going backstage to do some (mid-concert) apparently..

At any rate, I just watched that EMA's video, and said it on the news, earlier..
And it definitely wasn't Coke, that she was on.
Coke gives you the opposite effects; Makes you lively, chatty etc.. It wont make you slur your words, and or dis-interested. Coke is about the buzz (!)

So not quite sure what she had been doing prior to her performance.. May have just been blind drunk..

I'm not particularly a fan of her music, but it's a shame when an artists does something to ruin their performance.
Ah well.. shalln't be worrying about it anyhoo!

^ Have you ever tried cocaine? After you've been on it for so long you have the exact same spaced out expressions that Amy had on her face at the EMA's.

It does make you slur your words if you've taken enough, especially mixed with alcohol. Basically she just looked like she was hammered. On what though I wouldn't like to speculate because I doubt even she knows.

There are far more other chemicals which would give the exact effects of what she looked like, in that state; One of them not particularly being cocaine.. else I wouldn't have typed what I did.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. Not about to debate what she took, as it's not part of this thread, and we'll never know anyway! ..|

I have to ask...why did you expect better? She is a talented woman, but she's had to drop out of a bunch of shows this year because she can't get herself clean. I don't mean this to be bitchy, just matter of fact. Even if she was sober at the taping, it doesn't mean she's gonna perform at her best. Talent will only get you so far--you have to put a little work into your craft and I think she has been a little too preoccupied lately to put in the rehearsal time she (or any artist) needs.
