I think it is giving them too much credit.

We've had those that really have no motivation except to set people against one another by posting outrageous statements....often posing as 'innocent' questions or speculation and inviting people to give their opinions without ever giving one themself.

Telstra was a master at this until he actually started to become hyper-defensive about China and hyper-critical of western democracies...at which point, he was no longer able to be an effective troll because he had too much skin in the game.

Sadly? Trolls are miserable, if people wanted them around we wouldn't ban them. As a total sum 1000 years from now our enlightened descnedants will be embarrased that it was ever a thing, if THAT isnt erased from the history books too as some demographics are wont to do.

Sick. Sigmund Freud would have a field day unpacking that behavior, and we cast it as an internet phenomenon but reslly its just a mirror to how many americans treat each other and have been doing so for years. Sad x2 to see it amongst minority communities that theoretically should and would form sincere alliances. But a gal can dream.
