Anchor man has his first and last day on the job

The interview went well.
Apart from the little 'shit fuck cunt!' moment.

I don't feel badly for him at all. If he uses words like that on the job, then that's probably a good barometer into his character.
Apparently, his employer agrees with that theory.

I only use profanity on JUB, anywhere else is simply uncivilized.
:-)

I saw this article this morning. Poor guy, he was so nervous. And the co-anchor: awkward.

I wouldn't let him hit it, though. There are mo[strike]le[/strike] guys to choose from.

Here's an all-time favourite from Australian tv last year - be very careful when saying "Qantas customer".

She didn't get fired, or suspended, or even reprimanded - the network execs and Qantas knew it was a mistake and saw the funny side.

I feel bad for him, but he should have known better since he knew he was going to be on TV.

Damn.....and I couldn't get a job in broadcasting when I graduated from college.....

He deserved to get his ass fired. Once you are in that studio, you can be live in the blink of an eye. Anything you say is fair game for broadcast. Evidently he didn't learn that lesson at his West Virginia college.

Fargo is the 121st largest market in the USA. I saw more professionalism when I watched tiny little KXD, the CBS affiliate in Fairbanks, Alaska, the 202nd market.

Sorry if I sound like a media snob, but I am used to a pretty high level of professionalism. Rochester may be #71 in market size, but our three network affiliates put out a high quality product for local news. Oh sure, there are bloopers out there from all three stations, but nobody starts the local news with profanity from a rookie. We have stability. On Channel 8 (CBS), Kevin Doran and Maureen McGuire have been together as an anchor team for 15 years. Over at Channel 10 (NBC) Janet Lomax has been chief anchor 33 years. On Channel 13 (ABC), the master of all Rochester anchors, the immortal Don Alhart still presides over the 6:00 and 11:00 newscasts, a job that he has held since 1966! (and he is still a class act! I know this from personal experience. I interned at 13 back in 1985. Don took the time and trouble to get to know me by name when others did not...) :D

Sorry Sir Ron but KFYR is in Bismarck. An even smaller market. Bismarck is my hometown. I was talking to my mom and she told me about it. Bob Beckel dropped the F bomb on Fox a while ago and he wasn't fired. Unfortunately for A.J. he's no Bob Beckel. haha Mom said a fair number of people were willing to give him a pass as he was nervous etc. The network wasn't as forgiving.

Bismarck does have a very good medical community. Perhaps A.J. could visit one of the plastic surgeons on his way out of town.

Having watched the local television news industry for years now, I can tell you that while these things do happen, there are consequences that follow behind them - whether visible to the public or not. Sometimes those consequences happen that day, and sometimes, it literally takes years for the shoe to drop.

I take you back to 2006. This would be a KETK, the NBC station in East Texas. On the night of Oct 26th, the station's chief meteorologist decided that he wanted to break into regular programming to cover severe weather in the area. They weren't quite ready to go live on the air just yet. And this is the result...

The FCC actually threatened KETK with a severe fine if the station didn't fire someone. They actually had a choice of firing the chief meteorologist himself, -or- firing the master control supervisor who allowed the incident to go live on the airwaves. The station actually just reprimanded the chief meteorologist and actually did fire the master control supervisor, who made this comment on the YouTube video...

I was the supervisor of the master control when the incident happened. I had a trainee on my board(master control). We were doing voice over, Scott decided he wanted facetime. We were trying to accommodate him. I the voice you here first am not(was not) a director so was not practiced with that particular station. My new guy gave us control, Scott walked into the control room(mike on) and the rest is history. Bad timing is all this was.

In a separate incident, there's the infamous 2008 WNBC-TV F-bomb heard all around New York. Was made in a live promotion for the 11pm news...

Simmons actually started at WNBC in 1980 and lasted 32 years before getting the axe, and some argued that this incident was why - 4 years it happened - the station had let her go by choosing to not renew her contract.

He seems reallllly nervous. Felt bad for him. I 'd be really nervous too I mean it's national Tv.

Poor guy, this will teach him a lesson.

And the co-anchor had a delayed awkward response too. Like there was a time lag.

^ You couldn't be bothered to watch the clip???

Fuckin' shit.

.

Yeah..that reminds me of Karel who is a gay talk show host...I listened to him religiously...he had to be fired because he thought the audio was off and he said FUCK JOE THE PLUMBER...I WANT JOE THE PLUMBER DEAD....

You can hear him in this clip during the news...he thought the audio was off. He was fired...damnit...he had the #1 show in the market...but now he has been rehired and is back again! He was off the air for maybe three years.

(Listen close at .57 on the clip..that is when he starts his mini rant in the background)

I could be wrong but I replayed the video multiple times with my headphone on just to make sure.
I think he also uttered "gay"........then "f**kin sh*t" (*S*)

According to his twitter posts, which were published on The Huffington Post, he was trying to practice pronouncing the name of the winner of the London Marathon, Tsegaye Kebede. That's where the "gay" came from.

This kinda thing happens all the time - news anchors may come across a name in the script that they know they're eventually going to have to read on the air, and they don't want to butcher the name, so they do practice beforehand. Trouble is, the mic was hot, and if there is one unignorable rule in television news...

If you are in the presence of a microphone, watch what you say and, for the love of god, always and without fail assume the mic is on, and that what you say can be heard by lots and lots of people.

^ I see that explains it.

I noticed that part too. I think she's shocked and not sure how to respond. I saw some of Van Tieu's report and she seems pretty good.

The same thing happened to Jenny Slate, who was a featured player on SNL a few years ago. It was her very first sketch in her very first episode. The sketch was called "Biker Chick Chat" and the premise involved everyone saying "frickin'" a lot. Unsurprisingly, this happened:

Her facial expression immediately after was priceless. After that sketch, she didn't receive any more significant roles until late in the season (this happened in the season premier) and she was fired after the season was over.
