A US district court judge in Alaska who was appointed by former President Donald Trump abruptly announced his resignation from the federal bench last week, days before an investigation that found he engaged in an “inappropriately sexualized relationship” with one of his law clerks was released publicly.

Judge Joshua Kindred, who was confirmed by the US Senate in 2020, notified President Joe Biden late last week that he would resign effective July 8 but did not provide a reason for his departure, according to a copy of his brief resignation letter posted online by the court.

Kindred’s July 5 letter was only two sentences long. He did not address the allegations in his letter.

District Court Judges actually have ethical standards of conduct that they are expected to adhere to... unlike the Supreme Court.

Judge Kindred was appointed by Trump (surprise!) at age 42, which is an unusually young age for a Federal Judge. His confirmation vote was 54-41 (guess which 2 Democratic Senators voted to confirm him).

Kindred had been under investigation by the Judicial Council of the Ninth Circuit after a litany of complaints about sexual harassment and hostile work environment was lodged by Judge Kindred's law clerks. It also was discovered that Judge Kindred was conducting a sexual relationship with one of his law clerks, who later became an Asst US Attorney during the Trump Administration, then later a prosecutor in private practice whose law firm had business before Kindred's court.

[y]ou are special,” to “[y]ou looked amazing as always,” to “[t]hose fucking blue pants you’d wear. Always killed me.” Other messages are much more graphic.”

In addition to the details about the sexual harassment in Judge Kindred's offices, he is also accused of lying to investigators.
