On Tuesday, Ohio's Cuyahoga County Common Pleas court sentenced them to two years of probation, six months of monitoring with a GPS ankle bracelet, $2,500 each in fines and 500 hours of registering voters in Washington, D.C.

It's nice that you still believe that politicians are still capable of humiliation. Inability to be shamed is now a feature, not a bug.

Water off a duck's back. McConnell and McCarthy got to those positions because they long ago abandoned their moral compass.

An interesting detail about the video, Gladys Sicknick walks by McConnell and looks him directly in the eye. He avoids her gaze and looks to his right. Mrs Sicknick is Brian Sicknick's mother. In 2021, she personally met with several of the leaders of Congress - McCarthy, Pelosi and Schumer included. I don't believe that McConnell met with her- he dumped that off on Collins and Romney.

Pelosi put out a statement that focused upon the officers and the reasons that the Congressional Medal was being presented to them (notice lack of use of first person pronouns):
“January 6 was a day of horror and heartbreak. It is also a moment of extraordinary heroism,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said. “Staring down deadly violence and despicable bigotry, our law enforcement officers bravely stood in the breach ensuring that democracy survived on that dark day.”

McConnell put out a statement focusing upon himself and his role in the rewarding of the medal:
McConnell was asked about the incident later in the day on Tuesday. “I would respond by saying today we gave the gold medal to the heroes of January 6. We admire and respect them. They laid their lives on the line and that’s why we gave a gold medal today to the heroes of January 6.”

There's a lot of irony going on in Washington at the moment. More than usual.

Those leaks and Twitter about Hunter Biden (now a 2-1/2 year old story)? They're coming from the Congressperson who is in the middle of an ugly divorce. And from a Senator whose daughter is currently in the hospital for self-harm issues.

Maybe some of these Deplorables need to be worried about their own homes and spend less time in front of a microphone or out campaigning for losing candidates?
