Some talking head this evening was talking about the difference between the Fox model of corporate media and how that is what is driving the 'pubs cray cray, and the status quo of media decades past which was not expected to make a profit. Years ago, a network news division wasn't expected to pay for itself, the network paid from its general revenue. Sure, there were commercials but there was no motivation to dive ad revenue by viewership, and the rubbernecking, trolling, sideshow tabloid journalism that Fox represents.

I think that we should all be supporting PBS.

I wish I could believe that Thiel has had a Damascene revelation, but I honestly don't believe him. He is still the same, venal, right wing oligarch who has enjoyed the idea of owning politicians.

I am actually more afraid of these billionaire side projects being done in secret to get more power in the media space.

A couple of years ago, over at Slate, there was some article about Jacinda Ardern, and a couple of American commenters expressed envy (and hundreds more nodded in agreement) for New Zealand's relatively healthy political culture. A Kiwi piped in to respond that the reason is that News Corp. has no outlets in the country.

Even so, they did have a (relatively small) plague of wingnuts camping and hollering outside the Parliament building in Wellington, copycatting the wingnuts who made life hell in Ottawa.

I'd love to know where he's decided to funnel the money, I bet it has to do with judges.
 
I am sure that some of it is directed at the judiciary...but I also suspect that this cabal will fund Newsmax, OANN and any other media that pushes the narrative that immigrants are stealing their jobs and that taxing billionaires is evil.

This is literally all about racial divisiveness and self financial interest at this point.

We have this problem where everyone from Bill Gates through Thiel and Bezos actually believe that they have personally earned all this money and that they know what is best for Americans they underpay and that it is all about bootstraps.

And they love the notion of noblesse oblige.
 
The rich have believed that since forever. Thiel is an immigrant himself, so add hypocrisy to the list. If they were doing less noblesse and more oblige things might not be so bad, I suspect we are dealing more with Divine Right of Kings.

This was a rare event where DeSantis took questions from the media. Usually at press conferences, if he doesn't run for the exit to avoid reporters, he just calls on reporters from DeSantis-friendly outlets.

If you watch the video, it sounds like a junior high school student who didn't read last night's assignment but thinks he can fake it.
