And Let's not forget about the other Deplorables

They deliberately misunderstand the Bill of Rights, because stupid people can't spot the difference.

Ironic that some members of the GOP behind the banning of books are now shouting 'Censorship!' because certain book stores are refusing to put MTG's new book 'MTG' (due out later in November) on on their bookshelves.

Their store. Their rules.

They aren't censoring anyone...just not selling her book.

She still has lots of places that will sell it in the remainder bin a week or so after it is released.

you got there first.....wow. That should be a Hunger Games race.

But might as well just give it to a GQP'er....Manchin was only a DINO.

Manchin kneecapped Senate rules changes to enable a bunch of stuff Biden wanted, and no one has forgotten. He and Kirsten were both dead in the water.

Idiot. Yeah, you keep your seat by pretending to be "non-partisan" and fucking over your constituency.

I assume he is escaping with all the cash he wanted and will join a coal company board in WV?

Lobbyist/consultant. Who says the cash has to stop?

Manchin was against eliminating the filibuster and at the time I wasn’t happy about that but lately I’m glad it’s there. When I hear some of the things certain voters say and the ignorance they display about their own country and the occasional look in their fawning eyes anything that might hamper their desire for change I’m for.

I saw a bit of Trumps rally last night and the religious music that was playing as he was speaking was frightening. I didn’t know such music was a feature of his rallies this time around and should they obtain power again the filibuster can frustrate them. As the senator from Alabama has shown us each senator cares more about his little power perks than say, in this case, a smooth running military so I think even a Republican run senate won’t kill the rule and reduce their individual power.

The filibuster has nothing to do with Toad, he plans to just ignore Congress altogether. The Senate rules as configured were designed to stop the equal rights movement, including us Queers. If they want to filibuster, make them do it the old-fashioned way.

Republicans, namely Moscow Mitch made the rules change in the first place - recently. The rules changes do exactly what they intended, stop lefislation that empowers the actual people of this country - there is no way in hell they are going to change them back. Nor did the rule change about the filibuster create the filibuster, it just allowed them to say they are filibustering without ever actually having to DO it.

Manchin was more concerned with environmental legislation affecting his coal industry cronies actually gaining traction because of climate change. They would stop paying him if any of that nastiness actually passed. Which it would have.

You have a darker vision than I do. Ignoring Congress means the military will side with Trump and will arrest congressional apostates and others who might be disobedient. That is a future at odds with the recent past as Jim Jorden would be House Speaker in the world you describe.

That dark vision is not mine, Toad says it outright over and over and over and over and over and over......

I feel it's necessary to believe him.

Whether he succeeds is an open question, and he has said that his first priority is stacking the Justice Department and the Joint Chiefs. There are certainly enough people in this country willing to do his bidding, and frankly, I don't want to repeat the Weimar Republic.

...an ounce of prevention...

A whole lot of my childhood friends and family are in the horde, I don't THINK they'd die for Toad, but I'd rather not have to put that to the test.

Violence has been normalized in the horde, you hear people saying things that you never thought you would hear, and the racism, which was always hidden there, has become defiant.

These are the people who are going to try to install Toad as king. They don't want a President, they want a Fuhrer. That is not hyperbole.

I pray to a God in whom I don't believe that the rest of us understand that, and act accordingly.

Don't think he can't win. All it takes for him to succeed is apathy and minimizing the threat.

A Florida county commissioner ousted by governor and 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis, was exonerated Thursday after being sentenced to three years of probation and community service, and serving 75 days in jail, The Intercept reports...

Just a taste of what happens if we forget what Toad is.

You didn't read the linked article from Politico in the 'Trump This' thread?

Trump is said to be planning to invoke the insurrection act at the outset of a next term.

If Trump plans on grabbing power he’ll have to take from someone in this case Congress and the courts and they won’t easily give it up. Invoking the Insurrection act without an actual insurrection and Congress and the courts will snap into action and declare there is no insurrection and at that point we’re back to the question of does Trump have the military with him. If it comes to this and both Congress and SCOTUS take a firm stand Trump looses in my opinion.

A Republican Congress, controlled by his mob would hand him power in a second. We saw that with the GOP last time...there were many working to overthrow the election on his behalf. They will all be back.

And this Supreme Court? Now stacked with his appointees and being bribed to turn the country into a oligarchical theocracy?

And we came a hairs breadth of him having total control over the military. the last time.... a lot of his appointees were ready to allow an insurrection and to aid and abet it.

The next time around, he is preparing to re-appoint the worst of the worst.

This is how republics and democracies fall.

Thats the way Trump wants it to go but reviewing what happened in 2021 it’s a bit of a reach. The republican mob gave him 139 votes in the House out of the 221 they had well short of a majority of the House and his had picked court couldn’t even muster 4 votes to take up any of the cases he brought to their door.

Trump wanted Jim Jordan to be speaker but he’s not because some house republicans believed they might not get re-elected if he won the job so the question might be how many republicans will back Trump over their own careers should he send army troops into the streets and start arresting Americans?

Its easy to say you’ll invoke the insurrection act but its the details of such things which trip Trump up and in this case we’re talking about the necessary coordination between the army and local police and the national guard so all can efficiently work together and I just don’t see much cooperation coming Trumps way without an actual insurrection.

He doesn’t have the votes in Congress to give him the power he desires so he’ll need the army and he doesn’t have the fortitude for that. He is not a brave man and this power grabbing business isn’t for cowards.

Pretending Toad will respect the rules, precedent, tradition, or the rule of law is folly. None of this matters if he wins again.

Whatever the rules say - he'll make those orders anyway, they will be carried out by an executive staffed by fascists anticipating this eventuality, and what will Congress do when Toad just ignores them? Subpoena him?

When he orders Justice to investigate and arrest them? Will they hold hearings? Sue? Sure the law will catch up, a few years later, will that even matter by then?

You are telling yourself there are curbs on his power mad crazy, that is a mistake, it's how people end up under dictators.

If he gets back in office he'll order the police state, they will immediately begin to implement it, they will immediately start trying to remove and punish all opposition. The executive has the police authority, and Congress and the Courts have no corresponding capability. Turning a blind eye to that is foolish.

What will they do when he tells them to go fuck themselves?

The whole thing is moot. He'll be too busy on the links cheating at every opportunity.
No, listen to him, he's telling you exactly what he plans on doing, and it starts with an orgy of revenge.

^^I wish.

But he is so full of hate and a desire for revenge at this point he would gladly see the world burn.
