Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas. After the culture wars over busing in the 1970s, who would have thought that 21st century Republicans would be proponents or "busing" ?

In the theme of "Build the wall and Mexico will pay for it", Abbott has been busing migrants from Texas to Democratic cities. He's been making appearances on Fox News, bragging about the program and claiming that it won't cost Texans anything because private donors will fund the program.

So far, Abbott has spent $150 million on chartered buses.

He's collected about $550,000 to pay for it. Texas taxpayers are on the hook for the other $149 million.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott boasted shortly after he began soliciting private donations for his controversial migrant busing program that there would likely “be no cost to the state” given the outpouring of support from concerned citizens across the country.

But after nearly two years of fundraising to offset the program’s costs, Abbott’s operation has collected less than half of 1% of the roughly $150 million spent on busing migrants to sanctuary cities, according to a review of state records. And CNN found that the largest donation – $900,000 – never made it into the state’s coffers, either because it was a mistake or a prank.

Records show that at most, around $550,000 has been raised to date.

CNN did a review of the $550,000 in donations and found that several people on the list of donors said that they never made the donation. In some cases, the State has been taking donations made for a "border wall" and redirecting them to the busing programs.

In 2023, the US had a total of 58 cases of measles for the entire year. Yesterday, the US met that milestone of 58 cases in the first 3 months of 2024.

There are now cases in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York City, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington. And the number of cases is increasing weekly because we have a large population of children whose parents never had them immunized for measles.
