And Let's not forget about the other Deplorables

America has never been that kind or receptive to immigrants...all the way back to the colonial days.
I'd modify that statement just a little bit...

America has never been that kind or receptive to immigrants^ who work for less wages than the white people^...all the way back to the colonial days.

It's a nation of immigrants. They just don't like it when "the other" is "taking their jobs", whether it's true or not.

Mark Robinson is an unabashed Christian nationalist and virulent anti-LGBTQ bigot who has a long history of making offensive and antisemitic comments. As of last night, he is now officially the Republican Party’s nominee for governor in North Carolina.

We ain't done with Lt Gov Mark Robinson (R-NC) who is running for governor of North Carolina. The guy that Trump described as being "Martin Luther King times two" and "Martin Luther King on steroids".

Mark Robinson, the controversial and socially conservative Republican nominee for governor of North Carolina, made a series of inflammatory comments on a pornography website’s message board more than a decade ago, in which he referred to himself as a “black NAZI!” and expressed support for reinstating slavery, a CNN KFile investigation found.

Despite a recent history of anti-transgender rhetoric, Robinson said he enjoyed watching transgender pornography, a review of archived messages found in which he also referred to himself as a “perv.”

Many of Robinson’s comments were gratuitously sexual and lewd in nature. They were made between 2008 and 2012 on “Nude Africa,” a pornographic website that includes a message board. The comments were made under the username minisoldr, a moniker Robinson used frequently online.

There's a lot of layers to it.

There's a lot of layers to Laura Loomer's comment about the White House "smelling like curry" if Harris wins. The comment comes from a Jewish woman who apparently forgot that JD Vance's wife, Usha, is of Indian descent, too.

Northern Italian immigrants were more likely to blend in, at least when compared to the "swarthy" Southern Italians. Americans love pizza but they weren't as happy when the cheap laborers from Italy transited back and forth to the Americas to labor for substandard wages. And during this period, if immigrants from Italy didn't have money in their pocket or they failed their "communicable disease" physical exam, they were shipped back to Italy.

The Irish were targeted partially because they were Catholic in a country founded on Protestant protest, but when you look at the history, the riots over Irish immigration had two waves. In the first riots, there were protests about the Irish taking American jobs. Later, the Irish rioted over free Black people came North and started "taking their jobs".

And all along, the Native Americans have been saying, "There goes the neighborhood".

I don't even know where to go with this except to say...baffled.

Who would have ever thunk that one of Trump's favored candidates would describe himself as a "Black Nazi" while hanging out on a porn forum?

It's not like we've ever had shady, scandalous candidates promoted by Donald Trump.

more on Robinson

Heck, shame on the Republican Party across the USA. Nominating an adjudicated sex offender and convicted felon for the highest national office shows a lot.

Heather Cox Richardson sums it up pretty well:

That this scandal dropped on the last possible day Robinson could drop out of the race suggests it was pushed by Republicans themselves because they recognize that Robinson is dragging Trump and other Republican candidates down in North Carolina. But here’s the thing: Republican voters knew who Robinson was, and they chose him anyway.

Indeed, his behavior is not all that different from that of a number of the Republican candidates in this cycle, including former president Trump, the Republican nominee for president. Representative Virginia Foxx (R-NC) embraced Robinson’s candidacy, and House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) welcomed “NC’s outstanding Lt. Governor” to a Republican-led House Judiciary Committee meeting “on the importance of election integrity. “He brought the truth with clarity and conviction—and everyone should hear what he had to say!” Johnson posted to social media. Robinson spoke at the Republican National Convention.

And the party circles the wagons.

And the party circles the wagons.

There were a bunch of stories late yesterday evening about Democrats being in a panic because they were sure that Robinson was going to drop out of the race. They underestimated the stubbornness of Robinson and the new Republican "No Shame" philosophy that the national party has undertaken since the Thomas SCOTUS hearings and the Vitter scandal.

If past is prologue, there's now chum in the water and this won't be the last story to come out about Robinson and his extracurricular interests.

"Some people need killin'" Trying to compare and justify murder in God's name with national defense. Kill everyone you don't like just because they exist is his message.

What would Jesus do?

There's an abortion referendum on the November ballot in Florida. Amendment 4 an attempt to undo Florida's restrictive abortion law by enshrining abortion rights into the Florida State Constitution. The referendum is the result of a voter petition.

In the past few weeks, multiple signers of the referendum petition have received visits from Florida's State "Election Police". Gov Desantis, again.

State police are showing up at Florida voters’ homes to question them about signing a petition to get an abortion rights amendment on the ballot in November, and a state health care agency has launched a website targeting the ballot initiative with politically charged language.

Critics say they’re the latest efforts by Florida’s Republican elected officials to leverage state resources to try to block the abortion rights measure, moves which some Democratic officials argue could violate state laws against voter intimidation.

“Ron (DeSantis) has repeatedly used state power to interfere with a citizen-led process to get reproductive freedom on the ballot,” Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried told reporters on Monday. “This is their latest desperate attempt before Election Day.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis is defending his administration's investigation into an abortion rights referendum amid reports that state investigators paid house visits to Florida voters who signed petitions supporting it.

Why it matters: The unusual visits mark another escalation in the DeSantis Administration's use of public resources to sow doubt over the validity of Amendment 4, which would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution.

Zoom in: A law enforcement officer last week visited Isaac Menasche at his home in Fort Myers and said he was investigating petition fraud, Menasche, 71, told Axios.
  • The officer twice asked Menasche whether he signed a petition to help get Amendment 4 on the ballot. Menasche said he did, some months ago at a farmers market in Cape Coral.
  • The officer had a copy of Menasche's driver's license and said the signature there differed from what was on the petition. Menasche acknowledged the distinction but said his signature varies from document to document.
  • The officer left shortly after, Menasche said, adding he couldn't remember which agency he worked for.

Yeah... but here's the reality...

In spite of Kevin McCarthy's promise to get revenge on Gaetz, Gaetz trounced his 2024 primary opponent:
1726864153145.png

That district is on the northwest section of the Florida panhandle in what is referred to as "South Alabama". Democrats keep putting up female candidates who are liberal and less than qualified. In 2022, his opponent was the woman who got fired from the Florida Dept of Health for claiming that DeSantis was tinkering with the COVID numbers for the state; she lost 32%-68%.

Gaetz's 2024 opponent is a "personal trainer" and she's going to lose, too.

The only way that Gaetz is going to be unseated is if Congress expels him on results of the now 4 year (4 years!) Ethics Committee investgation (in which case, he'll just run again) or if one of those underage women he's been messing around with is brave enough to testify against him. The Feds had the chance to indict him for sex trafficking in 2021 and they dragged their feet for over a year and eventually chickened out.

Nothing is going to happen to Gaetz. He has a cloak of invincibility around him at the moment. And he and his owners know it.

He could be caught with his dick in a 12 year old at this point...but he is too valuable to his party to face any consequences.

Eventually he might slip up...but I suspect his sins are all in his past now.

meanwhile...I am not sure they are making the point they think they are making....but so close....

I think he's going to be more brazen because he thinks that he won't be caught. It's the same hubris that took down Gary Hart.

And he and his owners know it.
Gaetz is not a unicorn. These events happened at public parties attended by other politicians and big money donors. It's looking a lot like the Jeffrey Epstein issue.

Pause for a moment and consider this: I can't extensively quote some of the allegations in the story because it would violate JUB's Code of Conduct. Yet, the House Ethics Committee and the DOJ don't seem to think the things in the story are worth doing something about. 🤦‍♂️

I can provide a link to those interested in reading the original NOTUS story:
