And Let's not forget about the other Deplorables

Opportunistic? Cynical? Disgusting? All of these.

Opportunistic. Amoral. Self-serving.

Deceit is republican policy. Republicans have no conscience about lying, therefore they have no shame about hypocrisy.
Whatever is the most expedient to serve the current purpose is what they do. Who knows whether then or now are her real feelings.

It is all about grifting the far right wing base.

It just makes me hate people like her more. Using the lives of real people to scrape up donations to their superpac.

This is reason #183 why Johnson should be throat punched by Joe Biden before he leaves office. The best part is that it would be legal.

Probably not legal...her next step is OnlyFans.

And as always, there's the Rudy show for a good laugh:

"An angry Rudy Giuliani lashed out in court Tuesday at the judge presiding over the collection proceeding for the $146 million defamation judgment against him — and complained he's having a hard time making ends meet.

"... I have no car, no credit card, no cash, everything I have is tied up. They have put stop orders on my business accounts, and I can’t pay my bills.”
The judge was not sympathetic.

Wow, I'll take Tim Pool for the win. I'll have to "research" him later on.

Was he the guy who said that the Ukraine was United States biggest enemy and then promptly got caught taking Russian money? Along with a couple of others on that speaking list.

Delete the first row and it looks like the poster for the AVN Awards.

Yup DeWine is the winner today.

Once again, the failure of some states in the US to require universal washrooms in public spaces that make performative legislation like this unecessary is beyond us here in Canada and Europe.

It makes the US appear provincial

But again, it isn't about that. It is about erasure.

And politicians playing to braying mob supporting TrumpCo.

We have those universal washrooms in most public spaces in the US. They are labeled as "family restrooms". They usually have diaper changing stations and sometimes accommodations for wheelchairs/handicapped (which are also handy for cleaning up children's accidents). The Republican-controlled States could just relabel them and call them "private bathrooms" or "unisex bathrooms". They don't want to, because like the immigration issue, if they fix it, they won't have anything to run on in the next election.

The Republicans don't want to govern. They don't want to pass useful legislation until they are up against a deadline. This whole bathroom issue originated in... wait for it... a Texas think tank. In 2017, there was an infamous meeting between Dan Patrick, the Texas Lt Governor, and members of the Texas Chamber of Commerce about the Texas Senate's priorities for the year. Lt Gov Patrick told the COC that his priority was "keeping men out of women's bathrooms" because that was an issue that fired up his evangelical base.

Since it was a popular issue with the evangelicals in Texas, it was nationalized as the issue to replace the gay marriage issue of the Bush era.

The bathroom issue is nothing but a distraction to keep everyone in a tither so that we don't notice that MAGA Republicans are not accomplishing anything that benefits the American public.

A glimpse of America's future. Uneducated Nationalists create havoc and hilarity.

In Turkey, there is a problem with Islamist Nationalists protesting at the wrong embassy because they're unable to pick the embassy with the correct flag. This seems to be a particular problem with the Russian embassy, the French embassy and the Dutch embassy, all three of which have red, white and blue striped flags. When Russia does something to piss off the Turkish Nationalists, they show up at the Dutch or French embassy to protest.

This is the Russian flag:russian-flag-sm.jpg
This is the Dutch flag:DutchFlag-sm.jpg
This is the French flag:FrenchFlag-sm.jpg

“Often angry Turkish demonstrators mistake us for our close neighbors (Russian Consulate).Like tonight, throwing eggs,” Dutch Consul General Robert Schuddeboom wrote on his Twitter account, sharing a photo of the protesters at the consulate’s gates.

The Nationalists are also attacking US Navy members on shore leave in Turkey. The Nationalists seem to think that the US is bombing the Palestinians in Gaza. They also seem to be unaware that Turkey and the US are allies and are both members of NATO.
“No one will be able to respond to the cries for help from U.S. soldiers. Your hands are stained with the blood of our brave soldiers and thousands of Palestinians,” @YouthUnionTR said in its X missive.

The Nationalists also have issues with facial recognition. When China does something that angers them, they attack Koreans on vacation in Turkey.

Religion and ethnic nationalism are always a bad combination. The US is about to discover how bad.

Having travelled in Tiurkey, we saw some of this in action...in fact in some cities at the time, our group was given a police escort because some nationalist groups might confuse us for whoever they were angry with at the time.

And of course, much of the US is awash with people who are poorly educated and have not travelled either.

We saw who they turned on after COVID when Trump tried to villify the Chinese.

Turkey reminds me of places like Tennessee or Pennsylvania, where there's affluent, secular urban areas and backward, hyper-religious rural areas. The CHP party dominates in the cities and the AKP party dominates in the rural areas. Anytime there's a good candidate from the CHP, the AKP finds some reason to send them to prison.

What has happened in the past decade, as poor people have moved into the cities to work on government-funded public works projects is a clash between the two cultures. The inflation rate last year in Turkey was 53.86%. It was about 4.1% in the US last year.

Those Nationalists that you were warned about are the disaffected rural people who have moved into the cities. There's a constant barrage of disinformation coming from social media to keep them mad about something, often some slight to Islam or Turkey. The traditional media on television and in newspapers has been taken over by the AKP and Erdoğan's oligarch friends and it puts out a constant barrage of pro-Erdoğan propaganda and reality show gossip.

Expect similar things from the Bro-niverse in the US if something doesn't happen to reset it all.

Nope. You've painted a pretty clear picture of the future in the US...although the one thing that is different is that unlike Turkey, the US birth-rate is still lower and most poorly educated and unskilled rural people in the US would rather pitch a trailer on the family farm or just outside the town limits and hide out there and complain about immigrants taking all their jobs than take a chance in a big city.

Our last visit to Istanbul was unsettling because there were these obviously out-of-place groups of rural young men who were angry about the Anglo-Euro tourists and their inability to make a living. But the AKP seems to see tham as useful.
