TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Walmart has recently come out with a Great Value brand of Thin Mints and Tagalong cookies. Walmart says they are just providing customers with a high-quality, better priced alternative. But, Girl Scouts and parents say it crosses the line.

"Would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies?" asked the young girl.

But, now Americans may opt for the Great Value knock-offs Walmart is selling a dollar cheaper.

Big whoop. How often to do you see girl scouts selling cookies door to door in this day and age anyway? Hardly never.

Besides, most people who buy from the scouts are doing it to support their fundraiser, which is also the case of ANY fundraiser. Some kids sell candy bars which you can get the same ones at the store, but the ones the kids sell are more expensive because they're fund raising.

Walmart still has the best deals and prices. People should start blaming Walmart customers. They're the ones putting crap stores that can't compete out of business.

Yeah, I have NEVER seen a Girl Scout go door to door, ussually it's the parents that sell them (usually your friend and and co-workers ambush you and guilt you into it)...

You know what, if I'm gonna get fat, I'm going to do it guilt free

I love Thin Mints, but I can't always get them. Don't the Girl Scouts only sell their cookies during certain times or something?
I think I'd go ahead and buy the Walmart brand if I couldn't get the Girl Scout ones, but if some Girl Scouts were outside selling them (for an undoubtedly higher price), I'd buy from them first.

I will say this though, I don't see the kids doing the sales like I used to. When I was a kid I was the one doing the leg work. And that's the way it should be.

I have a summer tradition I haven't been able to do in a while, which makes me sad...the first lemonade stand (or whatever) I saw with some kids trying to get some bubble gum money, I'd stop and give a $50 to each kid there. Hey, atleast they're TRYING, and not just asking for a handout. And the looks on their faces was always priceless! Hahaha
 
I only buy Girl Scout cookies from girl scouts. Which is why I hardly buy them anymore. I only encounter "sign-up sheets" in offices and the like.

I have seen the girl scouts selling their cookies right in front of the door at Wal Mart....Was surprised but have noticed other groups doing the same...I will admit shopping at Wal mart because they are the only store nearest me that carries a certain breaD I like...
 
I do not agree with some of the things that Wal-Mart does. However, they are a business, and its survival of the fittest. The girl scouts are just going to have to be more creative. I mean did they actually think that they would sell cookies forever!
 
I like store brand cookies. Why should I pay more? :p

truthfully nobody comes to my door to sell cookies. and i'll admit i'll buy a box or two from the kids if i see them in front of a store, even walmart! but what i look forward to are the phone calls from my precocious cousin and super-smart goddaughter back home asking if i'll buy cookies from them. i buy lots from them and share with the family. :)
 
Oh that reminds me i have to go to walmart tomorrow and pick up a few things thanks for reminding me

GIRL SCOUTS SHOULD HOLD A MONOPOLY BECAUSE THAT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO AMIRITE.

Whenever the girlscouts come to the door now, instead of buying boxes of cookies supporting the Suit's salaries I ask the little girls to get their mom to come to the door and give them a check made out to the troop number for the amount I woud have spent on cookies. It's a lot better.

Exactly, the troops don't make a whole lot. Most of the money goes to the factory that produces the cookies. That is why I just give money to the troop leader or parent standing outside with the girls. I encourage the rest of you to do the same.:D:D

In the past four or five years, I've ordered (and paid for) at least 20 boxes of the things. I have received exactly zero boxes.

I'm going to Wally World tonight just to look for the knock offs.
