I just watched it for the first time last night. What did you all think of it?

Angels In America (the play) is one of the most brilliant things ever written.

The movie lives up to the play IMO. Meryl, Al, Mary Louise, Jeffrey, Justin, Patrick, Ben--they all were just incredible. Mike Nichols did a fantastic job with the movie

And Tony Kushner is a God.

I thought it was amazing. The acting was terrific! And the diolog was fantastic. I had rented it expecting to watch it over several days, but ended up watching it in one sitting! I ended up buying it and now with the cold weather coming, the first snowy day I will watch it again.

I love the series, but only wished a conclusive ending to the fate of the character acted by Patrick Wilson.

And for me, I enjoyed watching AIA winning every single award that year. All those other mini-series must be really frustrated.

I thought the mini-series did a great job translating from theatre to cellluloid. Jeffrey Wright is my god. He's absolutely brilliant.

I enjoyed the the mini series immensely. Al as Roy, brilliant! I got to see the play recently and was glad to watch to series as well. One of the greatest play of our time.

It's a beautiful piece of work and seeing it as a mini-series with a fantastic cast was even more spectacular.

Fantastic and I feel like it was one of those things that really allowed some of America and England's biggest stars to flex their acting muscles.

The Moon River dream made me cry.

Such a poignant minseries. That started my fanaticism for Patrick Wilson.... and Justin Kirk and Ben Shenkman's 'Moon River' dance? geez... too much.

Everyone is right... the acting was superb, and don't even get me started on some chick name Meryl.

It is flat out *brilliant*.

Unforgettable.

It's fun watching people watching it for the first time without realizing
they're watching Ms. Streep in the very first scenes.

I'm lucky enough to know Patrick Wilson, (and he's every bit as *gorgeous*
in person, trust me...)

His Father and brother are newscasters here in the Tampa Bay area.

One of my more surrealistic moments in my life was watching 'Angels'
in the background at a party while chatting with Patrick and Mark (his
bro) about how they wished the DVD had been packaged differently.

i haven't seen the whole thing yet and not to take away from its message and acting and stuff like that i found it very arousing, especially the plot with the married guy

Easily one of the best adaptations of a play for TV I've ever seen. It really touched me.

I thought the angel fight in part 2 was a bit OTT, but otherwise I really loved it.

Joshua_Me, you are so right about the beginning. It's also cool that you know Patrick Wilson. I only recently knew about him from Phantom of the Opera, where he played Raoul and Watchmen, where he played Nite Owl II.

I know the thread is old, but this mini-series is worth it.

There's a revival in NYC going on now until Feb 20, 2011.

I love it. Easily my favourite mini-series. I have it on DVD and have watched it through at least once every year since I first saw it on TV!

The characters are perfectly realised, the performances brilliant and the script is just incomparable. There are so many wonderful wonderful lines. My favourite has to be Harper's:

"Water won't ever accomplish the end no matter how much you cry."

Wonderful.

This thread makes me wanna watch it again!

I saw it when it first aired and it's only worth watching only once...It had the DREAM-TEAM cast of all casts...Al was my favoroite and once again proved he's the BEST Fucking Actor in the bizness...The scenes between Al & Jeffrey Wright were out-of-site performances....Al Pacino is simply a Monster-Actor and he Rocks..

The Play was beyond words.

The miniseries captured it very well.

On DVD, I hit repeat on the opening credits, and play it over and over, the music of Thomas Newman is divine, love the Oboe.

Some of the best acting scenes ever on stage or film.

But, that being said, I know I'm in the minority but I find Angels in to be pretentious and bloated. A big mess, actually.

Friends who I respect insist I'm wrong. "It's a perfect play," they say. (Not for me.)

I saw the HBO series and liked it, but again I felt it's pretentious. I just don't get it as a whole. What really is this story about? It's a big mess, but it trashes Republicans and supports gays, and no critic or gay audience is going to find fault with it then. Hence the inordinate accolades.

I played Joe in a production. It's an actor's dream play for sure! As I said, the scenes are awesome. But overall as a whole, the play is a bloated, pretentious mess.

I bought the DVD recently on Braex's recommendation and have watched it twice already. I love it too.

In return I recommended Line of Beauty, based on the Alan Hollinghurst novel, but that didn't go down as well.
