When a grown one does it and then reacts in defense, there's nothing cute about a tank trotting at you in fear, ready to chomp you with teeth the size of baseball bats.
Then again, in fairness to the hippo, it has evolved alongside really big, really nasty crocodiles with very tough hide, and nasty teeth and attitudes, so it's all for a good reason.
