Beef is the only kind of meat I ever eat and I feel guilty whenever I look at cow pics or videos. :(
We raised cattle when I was a kid, white-faced Angus (crossed with Red Herefords.)

I've always loved cows, but we are omnivores and we did not evolve to be herbivores.

Almost all farmers love cows to varying degrees the world over, but you understand that husbandry involves caring for animals before slaughter, but slaughter is the reason they are alive. They have no reason to be bred if they are not to be consumed.

There can be reasons to feel guilty for agriculture of plants as well.

I respect vegetarians, but not a fan of guilt.

I understand, My meat journey in order. I would never eat lamb and have never tasted it. The smell of it cooking made me sick. When I eventually realized it was a baby sheep I was even more grossed out and to this day I have not and never will eat lamb.

I also didn't like veal due to the texture but in college we watched this film in one of my classes that showed the living condiitons of the "veal" and their mothers calling to them. It wrecked me and I was done with beef and soon after that I decided to not eat any meat.

I was like that for alot of my 20s and when I met my husband at 29 and we went on dates I told him why I didn't eat meat and he joined me and that went on for a few years.

Then it started to occur to me that in nature animals ate other animals and I decided to eat meat again but never any veal or lamb. I also decided that if it looked like an animal I wouldn't eat that either so I have no steaks of roasts or pork chops.

I mostly like turkey and chicken and fish anyway with an occasional hamburger or if the beef or pork is shredded and doesn't look like a piece of animal I am OK.

It's been that way for awhile so maybe I have the right balance now. Logic doesn't really matter as it is all an emotional response.

THE END :) (y)

I had a HUGE black cat for years and this made me smile. It's weird how many people are superstitious about black cats. I had to move him to the bedroom more than once for a repairman or company who were freaked out about how big he was.

I just never liked meat. When I was a kid it was beef, beef, beef. I hated pork chop night. Like you said, I don't like to be reminded that what's on my plate was once alive, full of skin and veins and tendons and all the weirdness that goes along with that. A lot of it has to do with OCD. Since I prepare all of my own meals, bringing raw meat into my house and preparing it makes me feel more like a veterinary surgeon than a cook. Because of this, I started buying cooked half chickens, which you have to rip apart as if you were a hyena. Then it's like: what is that red bulbous thing? What's with the grey mushy stuff? Too biological for me.

I forgot that I do eat turkey maybe once a month. I get deli turkey and make a hot open sandwich. But even then I hover over it with my reading glasses on and remove the skin, streaks of fat and everything else that doesn't look like pure white breatmeat. Again: OCD, but nevertheless, it's almost not worth it.

My oven broke many years ago and I never got it fixed. I never really cook cook so I don't need it. If I had it, I'd be making meatloaf and meatballs and baking brownies and none of that it good for you in excess, which is how I would eat it. When I made meatloaf or meatballs they were always 60% breadcrumbs and onions. Not to beefy, but light and fluffy and delicious).

I tried a veggie burger once, but...
