I have a theory about the users of animated gifs.

1. They have very little to say. This is why a 3mb gif typically consists of a reality show star saying 1 or 2 words only, usually subtitled for the terminally stupid.
2. They don't want to let on that they have so little so say, so they let someone else say it for them in a way which they think is clever/cute/endearing/your epithet here. Because empty vessels make the most noise and the arrested development generation have a demand to be heard. Apparently shutting up for 2 seconds is, like, impossible.
3. A picture is worth 1000 words, as the saying goes. At 24 frames/second, a 3 second gif should be worth 72000 words. As opposed to the aforementioned 1 or 2 words, subtitled for the terminally stupid.
4. In summary, animated gif posters use shedloads of bandwidth, which they usually don't pay for, to waste everyone's time by having someone else saying 2 words they could have just said themselves. Or kept to themselves, if they aren't really worth saying).

I believe this is kinda the very definition of that whole Asshole % thing we're all so fond of accusing people of being a part of.

Butt gifs are pretty!

I love 'em.

For God's sakes people. They are as much a part of JUB as the endless bitching and whining about them.

Bring it on. In some threads they are the only thing that makes the thread worth reading.

Well said. Because obviously, the above chimpanzee "thumbs up" is a hell of a lot better than this one: ..| In that it makes a much better impression; has a substantially bigger impact; is considerably more meaningful; speaks much louder than a tiny emoticon; can't be missed; draws attention to your post; and it's memorable, to the point your opinion will be remembered longer.

Some of them are funny but I think it's getting to be too many. They got old real fast and getting kind of annoying.

Steven.

The Gifs were never funny from the start they are annoying and overdone. People need to learn how to grow up this is a discussion forum not post gifs in random threads. Its pretty sad that i can go on empty closets and they have a lot of underage users and have a more mature discussion then on here.
Sometimes there are good threads going and people tend to post gifs that are unrelated to the thread and other people start following.

I wish the admin/Mods would crack down on this if people done this on a average website they would be quickly banned.
