So yeah. I'm a geek I'll admit it. I love video games, I love computers, technology, and of course anime, comics, and manga. But just wondering has anyone ever been to an anime convention before? If so which one did you go to and what was it like?

We had dragon con here I think a week or two ago. That's not my cup of tea but I heard it was pretty good. However this weekend Anime Weekend Atlanta (AWA) is here. I've gone twice before. But I haven't been in like two years. The first year I saw the premiere of the One Piece Dub (For funimation) and they even had Collen Chickenbeard there. They generally have lots of actors that do different voices for characters. I think Vic Mognoga is going to be here this year. I think he does Ed from full metal alchemist. I know he's done Broly from DBZ.

But anyways. The convention is a lot of fun and they have tons of video games including competitions and they generally have a good selection of import games too. I played Bleach Wii before it came out in america a few years ago. That was really fun. They also have tons of vendors that sell all kinds of stuff and it's a great place to get imports. Another thing I like is seeing everyone dressed up. It looks like a lot of fun and I'd like to do it someday. I actually saw a baby dressed up as Kon one year. I hear lots of talk of people dressing up as KH cosplay this year. I have no problem with that. I saw someone dress up as 4 tails one year. That was an amazing costume. Oh and team rocket is always fun to see.

I've also been to momo con which is fun too. AWA is larger and has more stuff. I've also been to comic con one year. That is a great mix of western and japanese stuff. I thought it would be all western comics. Hell it was almost like a mini E3. They had lots of game demos for games coming out later and when I went Miyamoto was there. He was doing autographs and doing "IT'S A ME A MARIO" ringtones for people. The line was insane I diddn't even bother.

So yeah. I guess I feel a bit geekish right now since awa is tomorrow. I'm really excited. I love the gamers there too. I've done a few DS gaming tournaments there before. Nothing official just sitting on the floor having some nice friendly wireless competition. Japan Fest is also this week too. I might take the family to that one.

So yeah discuss.

I love conventions!

I attended FanimeCon 2002 and 2004 with a friend. I volunteered and had a great time. I haven't had the time to attend another in the past few years, but I hope to go again soon.

I have always wanted to cosplay. It looks like so much fun. I dont know who I would cosplay as. Something simple. Some of those costumes can be so complex and well done that it is amazing that people can actually create these things and wear them around all day.

Once, I had seen a couple of cosplayers attend as Azaka and Kamidake from the Tenchi Muyo! anime series. They even had little lights in front that lit up when they spoke! They were surrounded by other Tenchi cosplayers from the same troupe.

If you dont know what those characters look like then I will link a picture.

I've heard of that show before. Well cool. I've never been to FanimeCon. I've heard of it though. Sounds like there are so many. Gencon, Sakuracon, Otakucon, and so forth. Oh you volunteered? That's something I'd like to try. Those who volunteer at Momo Con seem to have a great time. I'd be nervous volunteering at awa because it's so much larger. Momo con would be a good start though. I might do that next year.

I know cosplaying does look like so much fun. I don't know who I'd be either. I'd rather be a shonen character. I just can't imagine who I'd go as. My anime knowledge isn't very vast though. Maybe once I expand it I can think of someone to go as. I think it would not only be fun to do a costume but to do something with my hair too like spike it or something. If gay guys can do drag than maybe I can do cosplay :D

I remember when I went to Comic Con there was sooo many narutos. I always see tons of Akatsuki too. I've seen a few Organization members. It's really cool though seeing someone who just cosplays perfectly. Has the right type of body, face, costume, and hair to match whoever they are doing perfectly. They all look like they are having fun too. Lights and effects too. Hah that's so awesome. There are some regulations about some stuff though. But even with the regulations and rules people come up with amazing costumes.

I'm already thinking about all the import games there. I really wanna get some import games, some keychains and japanese candy. And of course. RAMUNE!

I love manga and anime too but I like to enjoy on my personal time. I don't think I would fit in or enjoy an anime convention. I'm not a big fan of discussing storylines...that's just way too dorky for me *shrugs*

And I had my fill of white kids in costumes back in high school. Talk about obsessive and weirdly emo. But they made Japanese a favorite language class to take.

Uhm...

You don't have to talk to people when you are there. Not everyone is discussing story lines. Some people go with friends just to be there and have fun. You don't have to discuss music at a concert. You can be there just to enjoy the experience. And I actually think it's kinda fun. If you know the story and plot in you're head and get a chance to discuss it with someone it's fun hearing their view.

Uhm..while some people might have weird costumes a lot of people put hard work in their costumes. Some actually make them instead of buying them. It's really cool to see and the hard work pays off. And they look like they are having fun too.

Well to throw my hand in, I'd love to attend one of these. They aren't as prevalent in the UK, but we've got tons of university anime societies, and I'm a very keen member of the Durham one. It's through that I developed my love for Ga-Rei Zero.

Always loved the idea of cosplay, I'm just nerdy like that. I've seen some fantastic ones in the past, I guess my favourite is Final Fantasy's Auron, though I'm completely the opposite body structure to him, so it would never work out for me.

Anywho, I'm one of those fanboy anime fans that you hardcore guys would probably hate - into Naruto and One Piece, that sort of thing. To defend myself, I'll say that if there's one thing in life that I'd call a dream, it would be to somehow contribute to the progression of Studio Ghibli, the "Japanese Disney".

AURON!!!!!!!!!! YES!!! ..|

I actually happened to be at the Baltimore Inner Harbor one day when a convention was going on. It seemed a little odd to me as a spectator, especially since I didn't know it was going to be taking place, but everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun which I thought was pretty awesome. I'm a nerd anyway so I could see where they were coming from. Nerd power!

Oh that would be a great one to cosplay as. I'll look for that. I'm way to skinny to pull him off though unfortunately :(. Yeah the Big 3 :D

That is a great dream. They really are Japanese Disney. I actually heard recently that they are working on a new project. It will be a game for PS3 and one for DS as well. The PS3 one looks amazing and has all the beautiful visuals and stunning animation that ghibli is known for.

@JY Star

LOL I'll keep that in mind. I'm pretty sure that dragon con is the exact opposite of awa. Which is exactly why I have never had an interest in going. I'm sure there might be some stuff I like there but not as much as awa. I think you really missed out though. Hell even lots of my co-workers went and said it kicked ass.

Comic con really did kick ass. It was really cheap too I went on saturday and sunday. I did not eat though. Food was wayy too expensive. They had lots of comic, sci-fi, and super hero stuff. But they also had tons of manga, anime, and japanese stuff. It was a beautiful blend of western and japanese. I'd love to go again one day. Oh and they have different theaters that show different movies during the convention. The building is huge too. You'll probably have a blast if you go.

The exact reason I don't understand people who like to cosplay. Some are nice and exquisite but some are just out of this world  But again, some of my college buddies are die-hard fan of cosplays...

Love them! They're so much fun. The last time I went to an anime convention was like 3 years ago or something. Went a few times. Had a blast!

Death note kicks ass. I have the volume 1 box set. I had 2 volumes of the manga too. The live action movie kicks ass too. I watched the first and need to watch the second. THEY NEED to do one of the mellow/near arc. That would be awesome to see the final arc in live action form. Especially the part with mellow.

But yeah I went and it kicked ass. It was BUSY. Too many shinigami's (bleach) there. I saw a really good roxas, ven, sora's, and riku. Someone had Terra's keyblade too. That looked really cool. Oh and there was a HOT FUCKING beefy hairy guy who was some dude from resident evil carrying around a realistic chainsaw. Woof he was hot. I'd let him tear me up good :D

There were tons of hot guys there. I felt so lame being not cosplayed :D

I got 2 bleach import games, japanese candy, a kh days shirt (I LOVE IT) (Xtra small size ;O) and that was it.

Funimation was there and I wanted to get one of the myster boxes that had (3) season sets or part of a season set. But those sold out FAST. I saw really cool figurines of the dragonball series too.

Tons of little goku and krillan and some others. I was tempted to get one. I'm going to japan fest tomorrow though. One of the games I got I played a little and it's really fun. It's "Bleach: Heat the Soul 6". I saw some people in the video game room too. They had lots of fighting games like street fighter, smash bros, blaze blue, tatsunoko vs capcom, bleach verses crusade (wanted to play it) and of course mugen.

I wish I had more time to stay. I saw a co-worker of mine too. But lots of great costumes this year. Was really impressed with the creativity of some. I SAW An 17 too. I can't believe how simple it is to cosplay as him but the guy who did him did a really good job. But 16 wasn't there. Oh I forgot I saw lots of organization members. A girl did an okay xemnas. Would have been nice to see some guys as organization members. Shit someone needs to do larxene. That would be awesome. I did see a laxeus though. He was a big beefy guy. He looks just like laxeus. But the roxas/sora were really cool. One of the Sora's had dual keyblades. The keyblades were done nicely too.

Oh my god he looked so fucking hot. Cute guy with long hair and the bandana and outfit. There was a goku there too he wasn't too bad looking. There was a cute indian guy who was aladdin and had aboo on his back. I think I actually know him from YP. I did see someone from YP too. I think I'm missed there. I'd like to go back there. Stupid work. Although Sir thinks I've outgrown it. Meh.

I wish I had more time there. Oh I lost my shin chan candy though. I donno what happened to it. I switched bags so maybe it fell out. Meh better to lose a 3 dollar candy than a 40 dollar psp game. I hope Japan Fest is fun too.
