I'm not sure which moveOn.org add you are referring to.... I think it may be the NY Times ad about General Petraeus. If so, then they are correct in dismissing it.
Republicans didn't "dismiss" it. They hypocritically and deceitfully attacked it. One, the ad made no mention of and certainly didn't denigrate the General's military service but Republicans pretended it did; the ad referred specifically to his Congressional testimony of one occasion. Two, Republicans didn't object at all to the swiftboaters attack ads denigrataing John Kerry's honorable military service, nor did they object to the attacks on Max Cleland by a man who ducked Vietnam while Cleland was serving his country there and losing three limbs in the process. Hypocrites.
Further, Bush & Co used a planted "reporter" to feed Bush a question about the MoveOn ad at the end of a press conference so Bush could deliver a prepared propaganda hissy fit and then scurry away without having to respond to any legitimate reporter's follow-up question about it. It's on YouTube. Watch it. It's silly theater reminiscent of Mission Accomplished. Frauds.
It was funded by a totally radical group and given a break in the cost of the ad by the Times.
So what?
I thought you wanted people to stop pussyfooting around with PC speech.
And why weren't Republicans outraged that Rudy Giuliani got the same cost break for the ad he placed in the NYT in response to the MoveOn ad? Oh yeah. Hypocrites.
I don't know about Coulter trying to salvage the name of Senator McCarthy.... you may know more about that than I do. I don't think that McCarthy savaged lot's of people by name though.... contrary to popular belief.
"Lots" is a vague term. Coulter said McCarthy didn't falsely accuse anyone, by name, of being a communist. That's not true.
He was a grandstander to be sure. He made statements to the presss that didn't have much fact behind them. Not in particulars anyway.... but at that time there were many in our government that backed the Soviet government. Hell man, we all know that FDR's VP, Henry Wallace was a backer of the Soviet government.
Again you're wrong.
Henry Wallace was not "a backer of the Soviet government."
He encouraged the United States to "peacefully" negotiate with them. Big difference.
And Alger Hiss was a Soviet spy while working in the State Department.
For someone who claims that facts are important, you sure ignore them a lot.
Alger Hiss was never charged, much less convicted, of espionage -- or spying. He was charged and ultimately convicted of perjury. There was never conclusive evidence he was a Soviet spy.
Yes, McCarthy was an idiot but what he said was not exactly incorrect.
"Not exactly incorrect." Priceless. Thank you, Karl Rove.
Why didn't the Republicans enact real tort reform? Well man that is a specious question.... you know the reason as well as I do.
The Senate is the real power behind legislation.... and in recent years everyone know that you have to have at least 60 votes. Neither party has had that in recent years.
It's your response that's specious.
Republicans passed "tort reform" protecting gun manufacturers from liability. They had 60 votes. You're wrong that they couldn't get 60 votes when they wanted to.
And education vouchers..... sorry to disagree once again... they are a fine idea.
Why is it wrong that a parent should have an option to get out of the public schools if they don't find them satisfactory?
A parent has the option to get their kid out of public schools anytime they want. All they have to do is earn the money and pay for it.
Taxpayers pay for public schooling. Private schooling is a private concern.
