Annoying Habits of Jubbers

I honestly find it annoying when people start threads just to incite further negativity and drama, stirring the pot over and over again.

1.) Quoting me before I'm done editing my posts to perfection, causing me to have to go back re-edit them to a previous state of imperfection.

Yeah, can't stand that.

2.) Not giving me compliments when I fish for them.

3.) Not acknowledging and/or laughing at my jokes.

I've noted your concerns and will do my best to address them in the future.

What I find irksome is when people feel the need to make generic, null-informed, pseudo-psychological analyses of others based off of one or two of the person's 'characteristics' / 'attributes' that coincide with the 'information' they retained after reading a single article on Wikipedia. They consistently make fools of themselves and the psychological profession as a whole. People who haven't studied internal medicine don't feel the need to stop by the health section and try to pass off their uneducated diagnoses as credible, so please people, don't act like you have some profound grasp of the human condition because you read a psychology pamphlet in the waiting room of your local free clinic.

Geez, quit being such a schizo.

:p

I was going to say that a lot of forums have one or two resident smartasses but this place...

JUBbers who repost.

Guilty.

JUBbers who feel they need to flirt all the fucking time.

We should be more like...

Happens+to+me+all+the+time+Push+the+button_626a00_2562723.gif

JUBbers who only respect posts when they are either in line with their own thoughts OR when they are complimentary but quickly dismiss the other posts as scumbags.

At least there is one here :B

Hmmmmm ... none that I can think of!

I could name a few Jubbers who annoy the shit out of me, though .... :p

Could you please expand on why this is what you think this thread is about?

Annoying Habits of Jubbers is the thread title right?

Then you explain what annoys you about Jubbers (plural as in all of us, as opposed to singular which would be one member).

Your opening post, and I'll address each point one by one, along with your summation:

navigaytion said:
Some things that I've observed:

1) People that post comments arguing against what you may have said, and often disagree strongly, and then when you request clarification, it never comes.

I'm about to relieve you of that, in hopes that I'm not one of those "annoying Jubbers." :)

If you are going to argue against something, don't chicken out once the person you're responding to asks you to expand. If that's what you're going to do, perhaps you shouldn't be responding in the first place.

Should I illustrate where it could be perceived that you've done the very same thing?

I mean I would, but being that I'm a Moderator it would be kind of snarky don't you think?

2) Repeating what another person has said in a post, basically just taking their argument/comment and rewording it so that it appears you thought of it yourself. That's tacky (and very obvious).

I don't understand this.

Are you talking about members who quote you, then edit your post that they're quoting as if it was something that you actually said, or quoting what you said but out of context?

One is bad netique, and frowned upon here, the other is "if you wrote stand up for it."

You and I had a little exchange in the CE&P Forum, and you still never answered my question, so yeah don't chicken out once the person you're responding to asks you to expand, annoys me too.

I feel ya buddy!

3) Leaving forum comments that could've been said in the thread itself.

That would defeat the entire purpose of the "comment feature" woudn't?

If you're too cowardly to leave a comment in a thread either expressing support or criticism, don't leave me one in the forum comments.

Because of this post, I checked out the comments that have been left for you for fear that one of our Jubbers here might have left you something that was in contravention of our Code of Conduct here.

I was surprised to find that most, if not all of the comments that you've received have been nice and supportive.

That says to me that you're afraid of either agreeing or disagreeing with me out in the open and makes you look fake.

Considering the comments that you've received, it says to me that you're being disrespectful of those who took the time to comment.

I'm confused by this and why you would bring this up.

Well, you made a broad sweeping generalization "Annoying Habits of Jubbers," then proceeded to discuss post habits that you've "observed."

So either you're speaking about specific members here (singular), or your discussing how you perceive JUbbers (plural) meaning all of us.

Which is why I made post #8 here in your thread, and asked:

See ad hominem.

Is this the topic that you wish to discuss?

Or Tu quoque?

:)

Because if we're discussing responses, then which of those two types that I provided hyperlinks to are you talking about, and would you like to discuss?

If this is an intellectual thread where we go about pointing out things, and working together to find a solution then lets get to it!

If this is a "you're all a bunch of assholes because your not as wonderful as me" thread, let me just say that these types of threads don't historically end well here in Hot Topics. [-X

I'm just saying. ;)

I'm always surprised at how hardened and close-minded people will be, especially as it relates to political views. It's almost like they are partisan sports fans vs. citizens.

I always try to at least consider the other point of view, because I think I should before I comment. I get the impression that so many people just have their views typed and organized by keyword. So, if you mention any issue, they seem to scan their list, copy their established response, and paste it. Sometimes they will adjust a word or two to fit the topic, but most of the time, they don't bother to even customize it.

I think you do that if you are a paid political operative, but I'm not sure why you do that otherwise.

1.) Quoting me before I'm done editing my posts to perfection, causing me to have to go back re-edit them to a previous state of imperfection.

I'm SO glad that I'm not the only one around here that constantly re-edits his posts for absolute perfection. I've got to be the worst at doing this. It's almost obsessive.

Some things that I've observed:

1) People that post comments arguing against what you may have said, and often disagree strongly, and then when you request clarification, it never comes.

If you are going to argue against something, don't chicken out once the person you're responding to asks you to expand. If that's what you're going to do, perhaps you shouldn't be responding in the first place.

That's all, for now. Peace out.

1. Nothing is as annoying as someone pretending they don't understand something and writing 'I don't understand, please explain'. It makes them look fake.

2. Almost as annoying is someone writing 'I don't understand, please explain' with the sole intent of baiting another poster into an ad hominem attack.

3. Equally annoying are the hypocritical posters who never actually explain their own position or offer real information or facts to support it, but want everyone else to explain themselves. It makes them appear fake.

4. Just slightly below this are the annoying posters, who having written 'I don't understand, please explain' and then receiving an explanation, respond with some sparkling comment like ' Come back to me in three weeks dear' or 'The door is that way', etc. etc.

5. Equally annoying are men posing as straight women or women posing as gay men on any forum. The vast majority of JUBBERS are oddly enough, quite like flesh and blood. We know stuff about their lives and loves and hopes and fears and successes and challenges. Nothing destroys a site faster than having people who are patently fake overtake the discussions and agendas. It just becomes 4chan.

6. As has been stated, and forgive me for taking someone else's post and repeating it, there is almost nothing as annoying as a sock-puppet. While they may think it is uproariously funny or smart to create other personae on a forum, it has been found to be destructive. JUB doesn't need someone with split personality disorder making up little characters for each one of them so that they can support one another in arguments or so that they can see how far they can manipulate other posters with the charade.

7. In a like vein, people who constantly ask other posters to share information about themselves, but always decline to give any information about themselves. It only makes them appear to be fake and even if they aren't, plants a garden full of doubts and suspicions about the intent of the poster.

8. Posters who write threads complaining about the things that annoy them about other JUBBERS. Frankly, no one here needs to have a JUBBER rag on and on about why all the other posters are not meeting their expectations.

9. Posters who think that every response to a thread or to their post has to somehow meet their standards.

10. Posters who believe that they are entitled to have a one on one debate with another poster in a thread and tell other posters to butt out of the discussion.

11. Posters who complain about Comments on their threads or posts. I am pleased to note that I have not left the OP a comment so I can at least say this with some authority....posters leaving comments is not indicative of cowardice. To tell someone in a private message that their post made you ROFL or that you thought the poster is full of jackal dung, means that threads don't necessarily get derailed by devolution into interpersonal discussions.

If someone has a problem with a comment they've received, then report it to the mods.

12. White supremacists. We've had a few over the years. And racists generally.

13. Political operatives infiltrating on-line forums like JUB in order to test out concepts, catch phrases and to gauge the 'temperature' of niche demographic groups. It happened in 2007 and by the time the election season rolled around, these boards were full of threads and posts about 'alien anchor babies', islamaphobia and any other issue that the poli-wonks would drive homos into one party's tent while making sure that homo rights discussions were drowned out.

14. Finally....posters who have no problem trumpeting the right of homophobes to preach hate speech or spew anti-homo propaganda under the banner of 'Free Speech', but who hit 'Report Post' every time that they think someone has insulted their avatar in a thread.

Well,

I appreciate the opportunity to contribute to this On-topic thread and want to thank the OP for the opportunity. I've just realized how annoyed I am with myself though, because, having said how annoying it is to have JUBBERS constantly complain about how the other JUBBERS comport themselves, I've just written a lengthy screed..about the things that annoy me about JUBBERS.

But there.

I've just sent a Comment to myself about this blatant hypocrisy in order not to end up in an interpersonal discussion with myself in this thread...|

I'll try to make sense of your post:

Annoying Habits of Jubbers is the thread title right?

Then you explain what annoys you about Jubbers (plural as in all of us, as opposed to singular which would be one member).

Your opening post, and I'll address each point one by one, along with your summation:

I'm not sure how you could conclude that I meant all Jubbers simply because I didn't address one, specifically. "Jubbers" could be one, or it could be many. But it is certainly not all - it is only the people I've actually corresponded with.

I don't understand this.

Are you talking about members who quote you, then edit your post that they're quoting as if it was something that you actually said, or quoting what you said but out of context?

One is bad netique, and frowned upon here, the other is "if you wrote stand up for it."

I'm talking about members who, even if they don't quote you (and they often don't), will just repeat what you've said. This usually happens when you're the first person to comment in the thread and everyone else basically paraphrases what you've said.

You and I had a little exchange in the CE&P Forum, and you still never answered my question, so yeah don't chicken out once the person you're responding to asks you to expand, annoys me too.

I feel ya buddy!

I answered that question the best way I knew how: by freely admitting (several times) that I was not qualified to answer it and could not provide one. So, yes, it was answered. It just wasn't the one you wanted.

That would defeat the entire purpose of the "comment feature" woudn't?

I don't think it would. But if it did, then fine.

Because of this post, I checked out the comments that have been left for you for fear that one of our Jubbers here might have left you something that was in contravention of our Code of Conduct here.

I was surprised to find that most, if not all of the comments that you've received have been nice and supportive.

Considering the comments that you've received, it says to me that you're being disrespectful of those who took the time to comment.

I don't care. That's not the concern. What concerns me is what I wrote in the OP about these comments and how they come across.

Well, you made a broad sweeping generalization "Annoying Habits of Jubbers," then proceeded to discuss post habits that you've "observed."

So either you're speaking about specific members here (singular), or your discussing how you perceive JUbbers (plural) meaning all of us.

Well, again, the thread is about exactly what I said it is, in the OP. I don't think your hyperlinks apply. The thread topic is pretty straightforward. I have no intentions beyond what it says, so it should be taken at face value, dear.
