  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Annoying things about hotel rooms.

What sort of hotels are you all staying in?

My only complaints might be the sound proofing between rooms or the decor not being to my taste.

Many of my issues have been solved, but one thing hasn't been specifically covered:

I have pretty much learned to deal with most issues, but my biggest peeves are:

Lack of outlets, particularly near the bed (I need my fan and CPAP)...
Heavy comforters and no regular blankets (especially king bed rooms)
A very big pet peeve is that there are seldom outlets anywhere near the place that I would set up my laptop. If I schedule down-time into a trip, which I do so that I can catch up on email/computer stuff, I can be using it for hours, more than long enough to discharge it. I have to have a place to plug the power adapter in.

And I remember my Europe trip in 1989...the biggest issue with me is that everywhere that I stayed, the only bed covering was a duvet. Not even as much as a sheet that I could pull over myself, so it was either sleep with NOTHING over me (which I can't do easily), or roast. Interestingly I didn't run into this same problem on my 2016 EU trip, maybe word got out that it can be very uncomfortable having no choice other than a duvet?

That's why I always stay in an adults only hotel
Of course, that choice doesn't always exist. It's pretty much limited to huge cities (and you still have to know where they are).

Fortunately all my hotel stays are in resorts so I can pick and choose exactly what type of fellow guests the hotels cater for

The pillows........OMG.
Take your favorite one with you.

^ That's actually another complaint...almost always the pillows are TOO DAMNED THICK. I'm a thin-pillow kind of guy. (The solution would be to take a pillow into the room with me, but I've already tried that before and left them behind.)

As someone who stays in hotels a fair bit either when traveling for work or holidays, there are so many things that’s annoying about them:-

Those fecky clothes hangers with no tops.
The thimble sized cups that only give you a mouthful of tea or coffee.
The low wattage lighting so you’re practically in the dark.
Hairdryers but no socket near a mirror.
Higher end hotels that provide no tea/coffee facilities so you have to ring room service.

Anybody have anything to add ?

I just came back from 6 days in London went to Royal Academy of Art to purchase art work hotel was 220 a nights and great. They attempt to keep hair dryers as far as possible from water because of ass holes that think they can dry there hair in the tub...

Meh...stay in hotel rooms several nights a week.

Only pet peeves are no charing plugs on night stand and weak ass showers.

No kidding...when I used to do business trips of 4 days or longer at one stop I had a nice shower head and channel locks that I carried in my luggage!

I don't know. They used to be great, but a lot of them aren't anymore. I still love the Westin beds. If you really want something over the top (and can afford it) try a Sofitel!

I did that too back in the 80's, where I ended up at Holiday Inns way, wayyy too often. :D

My thoughts exactly. I have only encountered those issues in American suburbia. That is probably where they go.

Yesterday I came home from a month of travelling through Vietnam and my only problem was a place called "Little Beach Boutique Hotel" which turned out not to be little, let alone boutique, but a six-story behemoth with over 100 rooms. And while it looked like it was on the beach on Google maps, that beach was private. The hotel had its own private beach, three kilometers away, with a lousy shuttle at certain times. This hotel was run by Americans. All the other places were Vietnamese owned and opeated and delivered on thier promises.

But when I told them I felt screwed, they offered to pay for any taxi to the beach, so that settled it.

Thin Walls
Lack of decent tv channels
Loud patrons in the halls
No men's Locker rooms with Sauna Steam and whirlpool for men only (y'all know why)
No Gay Porn ppv options
No porn really at all
Paying for parking I mean fuck off 199.99 a night is good enough you don't need 30.00 extra a night.
Resort fees see above^
Extra drying shampoo weirdly enough conditioner and body soap
Over priced vending machines and snacks
Over priced hotel stores in the lobby.

Check in times longer than 15 minutes.

Parking fees

Resort fees

Thin walls have to be the worst
Lack of refrigerator
Ridiculously priced room service/mini bar
Restrictive check in/out times
Loud hallways (rude people in them)

I'm actually finding more outlets these days, right next to the bed. I usually bring a small power strip just in case, though.

My big issue is the bedding. Thin sheet, maybe a second sheet...and then a comforter. Under two sheets, I'm too cold. Under the comforter, I'm too warm.

I finally gave up. I now wear a long-sleeve T-shirt and sweatpants to bed at the hotel, no matter what the weather, and sleep on top of the bed. I sleep much better that way.

I don't understand why anyone would want to watch television in a hotel. You"re away from home! Use every spare minute to explore...

No, I don't know why. Surely not to make straight men feel uncomfortable with your focused gaze? And much less to cruise, since a hotel is quite a limited group to find the right guys among? I'd just walk to the nearest gay bath house.

Parking space in cities is prime real estate. It is very expensive and someone has to pay for it. I suggest that those who actually use it do. Otherwise, the hotel guests who flew in would have to pay for your parking space and that would be socialist, wouldn't it?

One of the first things I do when I get to my room is check the closet to see if there is an extra blanket in there (usually in a bag with a pillow or two). If not, I call down and ask for a regular blanket to be brought up.

Non-smoking rooms that smell of pot because the guests think non-smoking only applies to tobacco...

Bath towels the size of wash cloths...

Housekeeping that does not replace the glasses each day so you always have to ask for more.
