Anonymous Donors Pay Off K-Mart Layaway Accounts

One year I had enough money to buy gifts for people I would never meet, and I know they appreciated those gifts more than anything I would get that year.

This year I started, or continued a family tradition. I was out shopping for my dad and I could not think of anything to get him.

Normally when I buy gifts for people I think of what might 'suit' them like paintbrushes for an artist for example, but that isn't what Christmas is about.

Its not about shopping lists or something you would get for yourself if you had the money, its about people and traditions.

As I was searching for a gift for my dad, I could only think of what he had got his parents in previous years and replicated that.

I guess I will find out in a few days if he makes the connection.

Welcome back, Navi. We can assume it is only a matter of time before you are banned. Again.

But thanks for that op-ed view.

This was the perfect way to start my day :D I love knowing that there are still some good people out in the world. I know tons of people that I just wish I could help like this. A lot of them not "welfare" assholes, just people who have fallen on tough times. My father just had surgery and because of it will be out of work for up to 6 months with zero income so I told him "NO presents" for me this year so that he could use that money in his time of need. I also pitched in to help buy my little nephew his presents. Sometimes life just gets tough. I'm just grateful there are people out there that are willing to extend a helping hand.

Undeserving fuckers who run up their credit card bills knowing full well they'll never pay them down is not inspiring. What's worse is that woman's generousity only encourages more lazy welfare assholes to do the same preying on the undeserving gracious generousity of others.

This story is disgusting and the height of irresponsibility.

I have recollections of Christmas Past and that these feet I now hear have tread these boards before.

I was on another forum recently and one poster had as her signature a link to an Amazon wishlist for her 2 year old son. It was very discrete, sort of saying times were hard and she hated asking but you never know. My initial thought was what a sweet idea, I'm all for random acts of kindness, however I was struck when I saw the list at how long it was. over 50 items (mostly small ticket items but a couple were over $100 (OK some were clothes and she said the clothes were most needed but the majority were toys).

A 2 year old does not need dozens of Christmas presents. A 2 year old will be just as happy with 2 or 3 presents. Assuming she gets all of these things paid for by kind people, what happens next year? Chances are she will be as unable to afford huge numbers of toys for her 3 year old but his expectations of masses of Christmas gifts will be hardwired into his brain. Well done, another mindless consumer drone in the making.

Far better to keep Christmas spending within her meagre means than set herself up for a future of debt to satisfy a demanding child.

I feel I should add a Bah humbug, but I hope you appreciate my point.

Suri Cruise already has that one in the bag, except that her parents did the wiring:

Last week, I told you about Suri Cruise’s rather, um, extravagant Xmas list. For those who missed it, Lil’ C is hoping that Santa has an extra $100,000 lying around to spend on her gifts, which only makes it more strange that the TomKitten and her dutiful mom Katie Holmes were spotted at FAO Schwartz yesterday.

I’ve been out of the Santa game for a while now, but I’m pretty sure five-year-olds don’t pick their own Christmas presents, which leaves only one other conclusion: mother and daughter were shopping for even MORE toys (ones that weren’t included on Suri’s Santa list) just 10 days before Christmas.

And, apparently, Suri still wasn't happy with the situation. According to the Gossip Center website, Mommy’s little fashionista threw a full-on fit in the middle of FAO Schwartz, and they’ve got the pictures to prove it.

It’s unclear exactly what caused Suri to shift into temper tantrum mode (and reportedly yell at Mom!), but according to Hollywood Gossip’s source, Katie was quick to rectify the situation by giving her a lollipop as well as — you guessed it — more toys.

Bless your heart, sweetheart!

That ungrateful deadbeat of a welfare mother popping babies like their golden geese eggs is my prime proof. You give these undeserving nitwits even an ounce of compassion and they stomp all over you expecting more and more each time. It's not good enough that she wants a couple of things. No she wants 50 things. And she wants 50 expensive things. Who is she kidding?

She may have you all fooled with her cleverly fabricated heart warming tear jerking woe is me but that greedy grinch of a bitch can go take a hike with some other dike.

Oh dear.:help: You know that embarrassment you get when you say something innocuous only to have racists heartily agreeing with you? This sort of feels like that.

Have to say I find your judgmental opinion of the person I posted about a tad unnecessary. I merely think she has misguidedly fallen into the consumerist mentallity which equates the giving of numerous gifts to ones children as being the norm. She did not appear to be a deadbeat, merely struggling to make ends meet due to reduced work hours, and she seemed extremely grateful for the few items which had been purchased anonymously.

Putting things on layaway and paying them off slowly is NOT about running up credit card bills.

Just the opposite, in fact, you kind and understanding beacon of goodwill and light, you.

P.S. Perhaps this year you could ask Santa for the ability to spell generosity correctly.

These types of stories make me realize some people still know that Christmas is about giving and not receiving. I also heard a few years back about people who will drive around and hand people cards with money in it. Those types of selfless acts are just what some people need around Christmas and its awesome to hear about. I may start doing this myself because this really does sound like it is a great thing to do.

Makes me wanna go do it... Not that I have all that or not but I know I have more than some....
