I was at the Pavilions (grocery store) in West Hollywood last week. And I kept bumping into all of these gay men of different ages. One of the gay men looked about 25. He was about 5ft7 and I would guess only 90 lbs. He was in front of me in the check out lane. I noticed there was only celery, soy milk and some organic diet bars in his basket. Nothing but vegan organic food.
What made me really notice him was when the 25-year old gay man kept on staring longingly at the bread, dairy products and other grocery items other people were purchasing. I remembered I saw him earlier circling around the bakery section, smelling the warm scent of the french rolls and pastries being made. But he was too scared to even eat one bite of any food item that would make him gain any weight. It made me mad to watch this gay man literally wasting away. He was so skinny & lean, even the women in West Hollywood looked bigger and heavier than him.
Should gay men who are anorexic or neurotic about their body image, to the point of starving themselves to be skinny or using steroids to achieve a ripped muscular body -- seek treatment for their eating disorders or body dysmorphic disorders?
I would really love to get your opinions on this.
(Please let's not turn this into an anorexic bashing thread. Thank you)
