Another Confederate Flag point

I'm just really shocked at the general lack of knowledge regarding the civil war. The Confederacy was essentially the Third Reich of its day. Had it won the civil war, the confederates would have gone on to exterminate their black slaves and their stupid, offensive, brain-dead descendants would still be waving the confederate flag honoring the atrocities of their ancestors. Get thee to a library and read!

i still think the plans were cause and effect.....you scratch mine ill scratch yours.....


and ive heard about blacks owning slaves in the US....but never have read any concrete proof...any links or books?

I think I posted a link and a book in another thread here, once. I was blown away when I discovered that as a class, the biggest slave-owners in Charleston were black women....!

There was even a case of a black owning a white slave, quite briefly -- other whites were horrified and bought the man's freedom... then promptly got the legislature to make a law so it couldn't happen again.

I'm too sleepy right now to even have a notion of how to search for that earlier post... and the house here is chaos, so I don't know where the book is. If I don't come up with one or both soon, PM me and scream.

Equally disturbing is that reality that the people getting rich selling slaves to traders were black Africans. But that doesn't fit the blame and white guilt ideals our social welfare programs are built on so we'll just forget that and go burn a Confederate flag.

You can always google info on black slaveowners: http://americancivilwar.com/authors/black_slaveowners.htm I don't see why it is unbelievable. Slavery was, in the US prior to the Civil War, and through much of human history, a fact of life for many. And it isn't as if slavery has ceased to exist.

i i believed it....just wanted to read more

it sort of holds up (that link in particular)...but falls apart apart...there is a difference between cheap slave labor and free slave labor.....im not trying to play semantics as the writer seems to be very knowledgeable and writes well....but it does poke holes into a lot of theories that have been put forth

Thanks -- I hadn't read the Ellison story before.

One form of slavery thrives in the United States, and we regularly punish its victims: we call it "prostitution", but what it almost invariably is, is in fact sex slavery, with the pimp as owner. Were it up to me, we'd ditch the laws against prostitution, but prosecute pimps as slave owners.

"Rich" is a relative term there. To the European trader, what was given in exchange for those slaves -- usually captives from another tribe -- was relatively cheap, enough so that, as I recall it from a story of the life of Isaac Newton, a decent slave voyage on its triangle path would turn a tidy 600% profit.
