GOP: come for the racism, stay for [or in spite of] the homophobia.

A local Kansas GOP official lashed out at Democratic congressional candidate Sharice Davids on social media earlier this week, saying “your radical socialist kick boxing lesbian Indian will be sent back packing to the reservation.”

The Facebook message was written by Republican precinct committeeman Michael Kalny of Shawnee and sent to Anne Pritchett, president of the Johnson County Democratic Women’s north chapter.

Does anybody else feel like soon politicians are just going to start brawling in the streets? The language is becoming increasingly hostile and NOTHING is off limits, least of all someone's heritage. Luckily the cowards in the GOP have only targeted soft targets, in some cases even causing black candidates or politicians to drop out/resign, but sooner or later they're going to cross the wrong one. I used to laugh off statements about America heading towards a race war but it's starting to look exactly like that, the ground work is definitely being laid for a highly hostile, highly divided nation split perfectly along color lines.

Some may call it censorship, but that kind of language, especially from someone in the public eye, is not tolerated. We've had many politicians resign or face the consequences for making such comments. Thank goodness for 'hate speech' laws.

Fab, color me black.
gsdx, regarding hate speech, I'm glad Brett Kavanaugh didn't have a beef with me.

In America it's called "speaking your mind" or "telling it like it is," a euphemism for saying super racist shit that the evil SJWs won't tolerate.

This was another low point for American public official speak.

It seems like every time you think that angry hetero white guys can't go any lower, there is a sale on shovels.

The bar is so low that, you know, it's time to start digging.

The Kansas Republican who said of Democratic congressional candidate Sharice Davids, “your radical socialist kick boxing lesbian Indian will be sent back packing to the reservation,” has resigned as a precinct committeeman.

in a just world he would've been fired but in terms of justice in America brown people take what we can get. Which is often very little.

Will, looks like we won't even have to take a knee this time.

I'm a strong defender of free speech... even deeply offensive speech, except on the most grievous grounds. However, speech isn't free of consequences and ramifications, and no one is entitled to trying to escape responsibility for their speech or expression. Better expose people in the sunlight than hide.... this asshat deserves all the blowback and condemnation he can get, and all who tolerate or encourage shit like this deserve to be pointed out, challenged and held accountable. You can't hide behind "you're taking away my freedom of speech!" on this. The government shall make no law, except in very limited circumstances, to restrict speech/expression. But if one speaks ignorance or hate(or borders on it.. most are a bit more careful while still crude and rude in their language) then others than tell em to go to hell. Rip that ignorance to shreds, reap what they sowed. And if they are in a position of authority or power, possibly losing that position to maintain faith in the credibility of our institutions, either being forced to resign or get fired... too bad. We need a hell of a lot more people to be held accountable for their words and actions.

As bad as things are today, in much of our early history thing were very bad as well... not quite so much regarding partisanship but ugly personal attacks and cliques among the power elites. From Adams and Jefferson to throughout most of the 19th century, our leadership often was incredibly divisive and nasty... insults, innuendoes and allegations(though often more clever than the lowest common denominator shit we have today).. scandals and yellow journalism abounded. Indeed, for the longest time it is incredibly common... it's amazing our first amendment even lasted with all the outrageous insults and shocking gossip. Our saving grace as a nation was no 24/7 internet, no global near instantaneous communication. Today we are led by a nonstop outrage machine named Donald Trump, and the amplification of hate and rancor never seem to cease. We have to push back. They may have the right to speak, but we have the obligation to make damn sure this is not where the country devolves into. Fab is right... if we're not careful, someone is going to set off something that cannot be taken back and everything may well go to shit. We just can't allow the haters to win. It's our country, it's our America. WE decide the future, not them!
