Another gay bar raided

It's very disappointing because I've always felt the city was supportive of the gay community, especially during pride.

Clearly we still have a ways to go.

Disgust.....Disgust.......disgust..Puts atlanta now behind Saudi Arabia on place I want to visit.

Where is the outrage of the whole community over these officers. I am sure the place had cameras so where are the investigations, the suspensions without pay, the IAD looking at this.

More and more the US is sliding behind. You guys really need to start acting up some more again. You started the rights movement and now you place in the middle of the list when western nations are looked at. Even some developing and 3rd world nations are ahead of protections for gays and lesbians.

The eagle? I am pretty sure I have heard this name mentioned here before .. I hope there weren't any JUBbers arrested :(

There is a chain of "Eagle" bars across the U.S. patronized by the leather community.

And this raid is truly an outrage. I hope it results in as huge a black eye for the Atlanta PD as the Fort Worth PD suffered.

Wow I need to warn Brother. A few weeks ago there was somewhat a shoot out at the eagle. I don't think anyone was injured though. Not smart for a bunch of fag bashers to mess with butch bears or leathermen. Especially true leathermen.

I think a while back in Piedmont Park some people were walking after hours because of them being unknown to the time and not seeing the sign that said the hours. They were harassed by the police, called fags, and the police treated it like a game and enjoyed it.

That was in Southern Voice a while back. I remember once a friend of mine sort of got confronted by a racist police.

I am really not impressed by the police in parts of the city. Well the US. It's clear that there are quite a few homphobic police scattered across the country. No idea why some of them are but having someone with that kind of power isn't comforting. This doesn't scare me though and I don't think this should scare others.

Just another reminder for the march in DC and for gay pride this october. I do think that the eagle is kind of off in where it is. But I don't see why this is happening now.

I wonder why all of a sudden stuff like this is happening to the eagle though. Also wonder who was behind this raid.

Police raided a gay bar in Memphis last Sunday night.

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/sep/06/police-raid-shut-down-memphis-club-nuisance/

Just after midnight Sunday, a team of Memphis police and county prosecutors brought the activities at Backstreet in Midtown to a sudden stop and arrested the club's owner.

On at least six occasions, undercover officers witnessed illegal drug sales and use, the illegal sale of alcohol, and gambling inside the club, according to the complaint.

In July, another undercover officer bought drugs and witnessed underage drinking in the club.

The complaint also alleges that various sex acts were occurring in the "dark room," encouraged by the club owner and managers.

Where's that group which fights for Constitutional rights? I'm sure a few rights were infringed. But I suppose they don't really care about gay rights, do they?

This is so fucked up.

Some people won't be happy until full-blown CIVIL WAR has blood flowing in the city streets across the U.S., and if those fucktards have their way, the fa***ts will be the first to shed their blood.

No wait, I think you mean the ACLU... American Civil Liberties Union.

That's the one. There was a discussion about them here a few weeks ago and I believe they were defending rights which really shouldn't have been defended.

When was the last time a straight bar was raided?

Google "bar raid" and do you know what comes up? Nothing but gay bar raids.

About time we had a Stonewall Riot II.

Out of all the bars in Atlanta.

The Eagle is surprisingly one of the cleanest ones. I know Heretic can get fucking wild and I've heard of tons of things at the other one.

Even dance clubs can get pretty wild.

The only thing I've ever heard that the eagle does that is a little risque is underwear nights. But that's it. And I know there is no nudity allowed at the eagle. They even have some bear clubs meet there and Atlanta S/M Solidarity and Hotlanta Rubber meet there. And A.S.S. does some demos and events sometimes. And even so they STILL have to be covered.

I am so glad there is a MasT meeting this Sunday. We have a topic but now we can talk about this. First the shoot out and now this raid. Something seriously isn't right. Especially if neighbors didn't complain, the police had good relations with the owner, and if no one was bothered by it. Especially since they can't decide "Oh they had drugs, no lol they had illegal dancers."

I have a strong feeling that a bunch of homophobes are somewhat the culprits. Just not sure how it was done. I am glad that they are doing the protest too. I really can't wait til pride now. And I so wish I could go to the DC March but I can't.

I hope now even MORE people come to the eagle. This is just bullshit.

And Canada is so far ahead? Is marriage legal across all provinces? NO Have raids on bars in Toronto INCREASED? YES ...Canada is NOT at the forefront compared to Sweden and other European countries. It is said Sask will NEVER have gay marriage...EVER.

Wow?!!! What Canada are you thinking of?

Marriage is legal in EVERY province. From B.C. to P.E.I. And most of the raids here in Toronto happen at the Comfort Zone and other "straight" bars because of rampant drug use. The last gay bar to have any issues was Crews and that wasn't even a raid.

We had a series of raids going on locally about ten years ago. The reason or excuse was that a mother called complaining that her underage son bought drugs at a gay bar.

It's probably not too hard to get the police hopped up and ready for a gay bar raid.

Nice try - give a link from NWT government regarding legality and equality of gays in marriage...also one from Iqaliut oh and one from Gander while you are at it...oh and those in Swift Current are waiting too as are those in Goose Bay
Wiki isn't a valid link btw...never considered authoritative. But do try the .ca version LOLOLOLOLOL

Gays will get marriage in Wyoming before those places...
Can we take this argument to another thread, please?

This bar raid in Atlanta is revolting. We have to fight back.

I'm currently fighting back. A local school district has refused to fire or discipline 2 teachers who taunted a student with homophobic remarks. The district also refused to transfer the student to different teachers. It has become a huge issue here, and is the leading story on the evening news everytime something new happens. All organized through a Facebook group. My bf and I briefly appeared on the evening news, and I was one of several people who made 5 minutes statements to the board. Don't just sit there; do something.

I hope you folks in Atlanta do something similar. This has to stop.

Bill C-38 was officially passed on July 20, 2005 which extended same sex marriage to the entire country. Before its passage Alberta, P.E.I, NWT and Nunavut were the only provinces that did not allow it. After it's passage ALL provinces and territories were required to provide it under federal law.
