This is year #2 in a row and I am sad. I hope this doesn't become a pattern for my future.

It sucks the only people to share this end of year is my family. While I do appreciate and love them they pretend they don't know i am gay or simply avoid it (quite deftly I might add). So the same old routine happens when everyone starts talking about their lives and I keep quite to avoid the awkward silences and looks lol. Now this wouldn't matter If I had someone cause wed be making out somewhere instead ;). Well at least they don't ask me "do you have a girlfriend?" anymore lol

No idea why I am writing this, guess I need to vent it somewhere.

Venting is good and it's good oftentimes to be heard with no advice offered. I hear and understand you. Take care of yourself.

Sorry you are feeling down. I have spent the majority of my adult Christmases without someone else, save family. Have one now and am happy. Hope it gets better.

I can sort of understand where you are coming from. Even though I've had a boyfriend during Xmas, I've never spent time with him AND my family, it's always been either me with him or me with my family.

I'm sure things will turn around for you though. It's just a matter of time.

You're not alone, only ever had one Christmas in a relationship. And that was when I was closeted and with a girl so it even then I wasn't happy (thankfully I came to my senses and called it off after two months). But ja would really love to be able to spend a festive season with someone I love. Ah well ... I guess we can hope there's love out there for us

Hope you get to feeling better. This is my first one in 13 years so I totally understand.Need to talk feel free to send me a p.m.

Vent all you need -- this is a very tough time of year to be single.

In my 39 years, I've never had a special someone to spend the holidays with either. I actually had a boyfriend for five years, but we were long distance (opposite sides of the country) -- and we never managed to see each other for the holidays. We'd open each other's gifts while on the phone.

Anyway, not trying to make this about me. Just wanted to say that I do understand where you're coming from.

Your not the only one dude. I am alone also. On Christmas I don't mind spending time with family but new years eve sometimes gets to me cause i don't got anyone to ring in the new year with. Eventually you will find someone

I posted this in the Entertainment forum in the thread titled Winter Songs, but I think it's appropriate here:

Tony Bennett and Bill Evans -- You Must Believe in Spring

This is a beautiful song performed beautifully by these two exceptional artists. Although the song lyrics are about the inevitability of Spring following Winter, it is really about the belief that those who are sad and lonely will once again find love. So, this is for all of you who are feeling lonely and sad today, you must believe in Spring!

Well when I was single .. christmas season always means travel season. At no other time of the year there were so many interesting guys from all over the country and world at the gay parties after the family business :)

Corny I have always thought about traveling during this time of the year, but I still don't have significant income to do so. I also live in a island sort of so all real traveling has to be done by plane.

Also anyone can post how they feel here, not just about me (so dont worry BrianPGH).

I don't have a boyfriend either, and I'm not seeing any family tonight or tomorrow except my Mom, and in spite of that I don't feel particularly sad. Last night I felt a little lonely for a bit but it went away. If your expectation is that you can only have a fulfilling Christmas if you are in the arms of a lover, then you're setting yourself up for disappointment. This is the time of year for peace and good will towards all men and a general sort of love for all people. Get out and do something kind for someone who is alone, or lonely or hungry or in need. That will make your Chirstmas more fulfilling. It doesn't have to be about being with a lover. That can happen any time of year. Christmas can be about creating good feelings for many people.

I know where you're coming from. It does suck to be alone at Christmas. Valentines is even worse though. That being said, if you don't spend the day thinking about how alone you are, it can pass fairly quickly and painlessly. Wish you the best.

you've already celebrated 18+ Christmas's without a boyfriend, what's been so different about the past two?

I have one and this Christmas was still spent with me bored out of my mind at family dinner (and texting him under the table about how bored I was)

loki81, while you may have been asking a rhetorical question, I think the difference is that the older you get, the more you are aware of other members of your family having a significant other and when you're not totally out, it can make you feel self-conscious and sad.

Well if you can't travel to someone, go to the parties and meet the traveling guys ;)

Yeah, I'm still a virgin so you should be happy lol
Im just kidding being alone sucks but may the future give you an awesome BF as christmas present ^^

I know how you feel. I don't even have much family left. My grandparents are all gone now, as are a lot of aunts and uncles. My dad is gone, and my mom is in a nursing home with severe Alzheimer's.

I've spent 50 Christmas and Valentine's seasons without a partner. I do know what loneliness is and what it can do to you.

I do hope you find someone, and that you will be happier. Good luck!
