Okay, so I made a few mistakes. Unlike some others, I'm willing to admit that.

But the bulk of the content stands; Barney Frank stood in the way of regulation, and we're suffering the consequences.

Except the Republicans weren't in charge of the senate because of rules the democrats put in place. They never held a majority of more than one or two votes. Do you honestly know how many bills were stopped by democrats during that time? The harsher regulation of F&F was just the tip of the iceberg. (and you're also ignoring the fact that the democrats technically held control of the senate from 2002-2004)

Barney Frank is not a Senator. He is a member of the House of Representatives.

WTF are you talking about? Barney Frank is NOT a Senator. He is a House member. Stop this insanity. Own up to your party's own MAJORITY share of this financial crisis. They were in charge!

I was referring to the senate, where the financial regulation died. If you had read my earlier post (which you very clearly did not) you would know that.

Why should I own up to something that democrats had their own fair share of? Why should I own up to something that democrats refused to prevent?

Do you have any fucking idea how the senate works? Anything less than a 20 vote majority (for a total of 60 votes) means that NOTHING can be passed without the minority party. Considering that the democrats torpedoed this legislation, its fair to say that they're to blame.

Except it isn't, and your lack of understanding is undermining any legitimate argument you may have.

51 votes in the senate does not equal control, especially when you're talking about contentious issues like GSEs that control the purse strings for mortgages to low-income families. Cloture, which was used extensively by democrats, (and now republicans) prevents any bill from coming to a vote without 60 votes. Do the math.

Okay, but you still don't seem to grasp that had the republicans tried to close the loopholes (which they did) they would have been prevented from doing so by a highly partisan democratic caucus.
