Meet Tennessee state senator Paul Stanley. He's a solid conservative Republican and married father of two, who according to his website is "a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where he serves as a

Stanley recently sponsored a bill designed to prevent gay couples from adopting children. And when a Planned Parenthood official recently sought his support for family planning services for Memphis teens, Stanley told her, according to the official, that he "didn't believe young people should have sex before marriage anyway, that his faith and church are important to him, and he wants to promote abstinence."

In a sworn affidavit, a Tennessee state investigator has said that Stanley admitted to having a "sexual relationship" with a 22-year-old female intern working in his office, and to taking nude pictures of her in "provocative poses" in his apartment.

In 1994, Stanley's first wife, Judy Martin, filed for a restraining order against him, charging that he had physically assaulted her three times. She wrote: "He was going out the door to leave our house and he hit me with a tremendous blow and then he proceeded to turn and run away from me outside the garage to the street." Stanley and Martin divorced the following year.

According to the Nashville Post, Stanley met his current wife, Kristi Stanley, soon afterwards, while both were working for Bill Frist's U.S. Senate office in Memphis. She was working as -- an intern.

He's a philandering whore and conservative, so what's new Scooby Doo?

lol oooooo republicans.

We can always be expected to start a week off with the latest republican scandal.

So how many bullets can the Republican Party's foot take???

It's not that big a deal really. All he has to do is suggest that he's a person w/ weaknesses just like everyone else. The temptation was there, he ignored it for as long as he could. The Devil kept tempting him over and over again, and he fell from salvation. But he's realized he was sinning, and now he's back w/ the LORD. He's asked for forgiveness and he's on the path to righteousness. When he's tempted again, he'll lean on GOD. Hate the sin, not the sinner.

That sort of attitude seemed to work for Ted Haggard. He was a minister not a politician, but conservative is conservative.

C'mon now - Republicans lawmakers don't have a monopoly on sex scandals. Don't forget that Bill Clinton was 49 years old when he was messing around with 22 year old Monica Lewinsky. And what about John Edwards who had an affair during his 2008 presidential run? Gary Condit was 53 years old when he had an affair with 24 year old Chandra Levy.
Eliot Spitzer was a client of prostitution ring. Gerry Studds was 37 in 1973 when he had his affair with a 17 year old male page and went on to serve in Congress another 30 years, while Republican Dan Crane had an affair with a 17-year old female page in 1983 and lost his bid for reelection a year later as a result.

Seems like everyone's always eager to denounce guilty senators and representatives if they're Republican but turn a blind eye and forgive the offenders when they're Democrat.

Yeah, but Democrats don't have the "family values" issues as a plank in the party platform. The issue isn't infidelity, the issue is hypocrisy.

For me, the difference is that usually Democrats don't bring their morals into political debates. The don't use their morals to win votes. They don't point their fingers at the sins of their opponents. When a Democrat makes a point, they don't bring up the Bible or Christ. They don't act like they're holier than everyone else.

I couldn't care less who is fucking whom in politics, but when you're casting stones at other people, you'd better be above reproach.

True, but I will say this, one has the motto of "Do as I say, but don't do as I do"...

Bill Clinton NEVER held himself up as a champion of "family values," he never campioned causes like "no gay adoption" or "no sex education" or "no contraception for unmarried people."

Democrats don't make their party platform "we're the moral leaders come to tell you how to live your life."

I don't care when John Edwards has an affair because he wasn't shaking his bible at everyone else the day before telling them how to run their lives.

Republicans take every chance to elevate themselves up on a pedestal when it comes to "morality." Which is why we love to point out they're a lot worse than anyone else.

Ah hypocrisy, thy name is Republican politician.

I agree that there is no comparison between Clinton's blow job and the humiliating spectacle of the Republicans' alignment with the fascist right-wing Christians who want us to go back to the closet so they can nail the door shut.

ok i don't get all this Republican bashing. there not the only ones apposed to 2 gay marriage. our current president the one that says it time for a change. he thinks marriage is between a man and a women. he does have the same view has mc cain that gay people should have rights for civil unions, there is over one thousand things that married people can do that people with civil unions can't. so don't just bash the republicans

I thought this thread was about a republican sex scandal, not gay marriage.

Anyway, everyone already knows this. It isn't like he kept it a secret. He said he supports civil unions.

ok why do most gays hate Republican's? they oppose gay marriage. this form is making fun of republicans and i don't get it. i really don't.
and yea i know we all know he supports civil union. but why is that ok? he's said that since he ran for office, that why i voted for Mc Cain. the only vote that would have change my views to democratic would have been the gay marriage.
this form should just be about closeted gay politicians, if both sides have the same view why are you only targeting one side?

ok why do most gays hate Republican's?

Probably because most of them are like the guy in the first post in this thread.... spending most of his time riffling around in everyone else's business, trying to run the private lives of the "free world."

Trying to limit education, access to birth control, trying to hold himself up as a moral leader..

But then he's taking pictures of naked interns and beating his wife when he thinks the cameras are off.

Yes, Bill Clinton got a blowjob but he didn't spend the preceding months railing about how people shouldn't have sex out of wedlock.

If you can't see the difference, there's something wrong with you.

by the way, the whole silly "Obama is against gay marriage too" argument is a very ham-fisted one. He might not support the WORD marriage but he supports FULL EQUALITY for our relationships. The Republicans do not. They, in fact, spend a lot of money to make sure that our families are punished for being gay.

Drop it.. you're not going to win any points with that argument because it just proves you're not paying attention.
