  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Another rip off - Power Balance wristband

hu? i read that ..
Power Band's US website claims the band's mylar holograms are embedded with naturally occurring frequencies designed to work with the body's natural energy field for improved balance, strength and flexibility.

.. and left the website

did they really need a study to know that this is bullshit?

There will always be people who believe things like these will work, and they will be right. Their wallets won't be quite as unbalancing as they were before they bought the wristbands.

I just had the exact same reaction. What rational person on this Earth can consider him/herself an intelligent human being worth the oxygen they are consuming if they believe this massive load of bullshit? We're in more trouble than I thought if more than 12 of these were sold.

People will believe all kInDs of stuff...

haha, anyone that has seen the commercial for that and didn't instantly know it was bullshit has a serious gullibility problem.

Actually those things do tend to work. Its all a psychosomatic thing. The gullible fool buys it and puts it on, "feeling" it begin to work. He/she then feels that he has better balance/greater strength. His body then reacts according to the signals from his brain. His balance is improved and his muscles are minutely more efficient, giving him greater faith in the device and a slightly greater psychosomatic response (just another placebo effect).

Never underestimate the power of faith. Even unfounded faith can change a situation, if it is deep enough.

I just invented a drink which will make your dick grow three inches. I know it looks like a glass of ordinary water but I assure you that it is not. For the price of $19.95 a glass, your dick can grow three inches bigger!

Call now!

That is the brain doing the work, not the item. They don't do anything. They're very expensive placebos. Snake oil salesmen know what it's all about.

Ah, but without the placebo acting as a catalyst for the psychosomatic response there would be nothing. So in those instances the bands actually do work.

Yes the placebo affect can be real, but unfortunately in cases like this it just serves to enrich people that don't really offer anything of value to society.

There was a little stand at the mall where they were selling these and the man running it kept trying to talk me into buying one. There also one for electric cigarettes.

I could get the same results with a pretty rock and it wouldn't cost you $29.95 plus tax and S&H.

The bands don't do a bloody thing except make a lot of people poorer and a few people richer.

But that isn't the point. Those of us who don't need the placebo don't buy it. Just that simple. But for those who actually get a benefit from it, who are we to say that they shouldn't be allowed to buy it? Where do we get off telling them how to live their lives? We don't like others imposing their will on us, how can we then stand up and insist that we should do that to others?

No one has said people can't buy it if they want to. No one is imposing their will on anyone. Don't be overly dramatic lol.

I wasn't aware that was what we are doing. I thought we were discussing what a rip off the bracelets were.
