Winner has never met a Republican not Owned by the Insurance Industry
Finally, a Democrat with the balls to stand up to the Republicans and tell it like it is

He name is actually Anthony Weiner, but it’s the thought that counts. (*8*)

Re: Anthony Winner rips GOP on Health Care

I think Maddow's best point is that the health insurance companies aren't interested at all in the health of any Americans (except their executives). What is good for the insurance companies is bad for health. They aren't health care companies at all; they're medical care rationing companies, practicing triage by excluding those most likely to actually need care.

I wish I'd seen this before I went to hear Gary Johnson. The point that providing more competition is actually not a change at all is a potent one: so long as profit is the motive, companies will endeavor to excel at collecting premiums and providing as near to nothing as they can manage.

Competition is a good idea. However, if you just let the current players play, there won't really be competition, there will be the status quo. The way to provide competition would be to provide massive incentives for citizens to combine into fraternal companies, which provide far more per dollar than for-profit outfits. Let the Elks run an insurance company for their members, let every national church body run its own, let gays have our own if we want. Base insurance not on profit but on community, and let people choose their community.

Make sure there's at least one large fraternal organization in every state and a hundred more, and the for-profit people will have to actually start to care about health, and not just profit.

Ever consider running for office? :=D:

Don't forget that Obama put together secret deals with the pharma and insurance companies early last year.

Don't you find it strange that you hear nothing from the insurance companies and pharma companies about the health care plan. They were protected by Obama.

I still see nothing that would reduce the average person's cost for insurance in either of the two plans or Obama's plan.

PS: Ms Maddow cut up the video even though she said she wouldn't have too. I'm not a fan of unreasonable high bonuses for health care companies or even high salaries for cable news readers like Ms. Maddow.

Maybe you haven't heard anything from the Health Insurance companies, but you representatives have certainly heard from them.

Overall, health care lobbying has increased, exceeding $422 million during the first ninth months of the year, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks money in politics. That's more than any other industry and a nearly 10% jump over the same period in 2008. The center's Dave Levinthal said the frenzy of new lobbying activity makes financial sense

Droid, that does seem to be true to some extent. I heard through the grapevine that Obama nixed the idea of importing pharmaceuticals from Canada, which would have saved $.

It's awfully discouraging.

The entire bill that Obama and the democrats want is one big grab bag for the insurance companies. The best part about today the summit today was when Obama claimed that the bill would lower premiums, and he was told flat out by Lamar Alexander that he was wrong. Because, despite what they claim, all the bill is going to do is add in 20 million more people into the system, with the same costs and the same amount of money per patient going to the insurance companies. What that means is that taxpayers would essentially be paying these companies to get more wealthy, while the nation's economy suffers the consequences.

The entire process is totally and completely fucked. The bills right now are complete garbage, and the democrats are going to try and force it through using reconciliation. (if they do, its going to be an absolute bloodbath in 2010. I can't imagine that democrats would be able to hold onto ANY majority if they force this POS bill through, and the public's disapproval of the bill and the use of reconciliation almost guarantees that they'll lose big)

Sorry... your lies are being over-ruled by truth.

You can spit out the GOP talking point lies all you want but we all know that those people are the same ones who puke out the BS about "death panels" and such.

It's funny how excited the Hope and Change The Tone crowd gets whenever a Democrat attacks Republicans.

Except in this case the criticism is true. That is, unless you and the democrats have some magic way of providing insurance to 30 million people without a public option or a government-run plan. I mean, get real Jasun. You're so blinded by your ideology that you can't see the bill for what it is; unless a public option is included, this will end up as a giant give-away to the insurance companies. (and even I'd prefer a public option-laden bill to a $1 trillion dollar give-away to the insurance companies that Obama is pushing.)

with the same costs and the same amount of money per patient going to the insurance companies.

This part is wrong. Costs will go up because insurance companies will now be required to cover preexisting conditions and it will be much harder to drop people for getting sick etc.

This is why they are guaranteed the new customers, so they don't have a legitimate excuse to raise premiums. Without that, they would, as we would be asking them to cover more costs with the same revenue.

What did she cut? Have you got footage showing more of what he had to say?

Kuli - she didn't show the entire video - when she said she didn't have to edit it. I know enough about editing that the entire thing wasn't shown. My point being is that Maddow often conveniently misrepresents things -- making herself look good -- sometimes rearranging, cutting, and editing what a person said to make her point. If you watch her a few times --you will understand.

You've also conveniently proved another of the chief arguments against the democrat's bill; it does ZERO to lower costs. What the hell is the point of a bill like this that is supposed to 'help' the healthcare system when all its going to do is make all of the problems we have now worse.

No.

Thousands of Americans dying for lack of access to health care is not funny.

Reason would aim the attack at the Party that holds the majority and the President and leader of that Party who insists on mandating private insurance without public option and made a backroom deal with Pharma that excludes negotiating drug prices and reimportation, and could pass health care reform without a single Republican vote.

Yes, it is a shame people don't have access to health insurance - but people are not refused health care in the US - it may not be the same for everyone. However the current bill does not cover everyone, reduce prescription drug costs, reduce premium costs -- but does hurt Medicare.

Both bills are trainwrecks in the making.

And americans are opposed to what the president wants.
