GOProud represents gay conservatives and their allies. GOProud is committed to a traditional conservative agenda that emphasizes limited government, individual liberty, free markets and a confident foreign policy. GOProud promotes our traditional conservative agenda by influencing politics and policy at the federal level.

You would think the Log Cabin Republicans and GOProud would get fed up with the hatred directed at them from within their own party, and just leave that religious organization.

Maybe, it isn't religion, but the money interest. The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.

FRC's obsession with gays seems to be growing to even more absurd levels.

I hope this action marginalizes them even further.

Could this signal the beginning of a watershed between fiscal and social conservatives in America? AKA: 'You're either with us or you're with the.., erm....'

Is it so hard to understand that Republicans and Conservatives just like Democrats and Liberals are not of a single mind on everything. There a Social Conservatives, Religious Conservatives, Fiscal Conservatives, Libertarian Conservatives, etc.

The same is true of Gays, there are Gays who believe in fiscal conservatism and small government, should they abandon their principles to embrace a party that is the opposite of everything they believe except the one area of gay rights or should they stay with the Republicans and try to bring change on the civil rights issues from within? GOPride and LCR have chosen to do the latter.

My favorite response is this.

"One person after another came up to our booth and thanked us for being there."

I'm reminded of a scene in Blazing Saddles with Gene Wilder consoling Cleavon Little...

"Just think, in 25 years you'll be able to shake their hands in broad daylight."

All due respect to both of these originzations...with the Religious right so closely intertwined with the Republicians, you will NEVER be accepted.

Laika, your sentiments are noble, your heart is in the right place....but I think the Christians are going to win this one, and throw you guys out.

You're badly outnumbered.

My username is Supersix, which is a Chrysler Slant-6 engine from the late 70s with a 2 barrel carburetor. Do not call me by someone else's name. And the experiences of my life so far seem to contradict your second statement. Gay people have come VERY far, why all of a sudden should it stop now? The left loves to believe that the only advancement can be by hysteria, hate, and screaming all directed at the right. God Forbid we lead by example, which is far more effective at changing the hearts and minds of people. I happen to be friends with devout catholics, who accept me for who I am.

I can agree with these sentiments, except that it is wise not to tar, and feather all on the left with such a judgement.

Not a few of us, on the left are rather more circumspect, when recognising that progress towards equality under the law, should include political action and leadership, by example. The two work very well together.

The late Dorothy Day reminds us that not all on the left are raving, angry, hostile haters of religion.

Legislation that has ended racial segregation has not changed the hearts of those who hate their fellow man with a vengeance, as a result of differences in skin pigmentation. Legislation does not legislate the human mind into changing its slanted perspectives.

But there must be a beginning. And the laws of the land are a good place to begin.

^ This.

It would be one thing if the party they were going to vote for actually stood for the principles they spew at every opportunity, but let's be clear here. There really is no difference between the two Official Peoples' Parties in the US except for social causes.

Is it so hard to understand that Republicans and Conservatives just like Democrats and Liberals are not of a single mind on everything.

Why then, do Republicans vote as a single mind on everything?

The same is true of Gays, there are Gays who believe in fiscal conservatism and small government...

If they believe in fiscal conservatism and small government, why are they still Republicans?

Earlier this year the 'Religious Right' put all its power, might and influence to stop the Conservative Political Action Conference (the largest annual gathering of conservative activists, elected officials and representatives from across the US) from being co-sponsered by GOPride and FAILED. I've read that GOPride will be returning this year. Some the really far NUT CASE right are boycotting in protest. It seems it is the 'wingnuts' who are being driven out by the conservative gays not the other way round.

I remember seeing and was impressed when a speaker for a California Republican group got up at this years CPAC and condemned GOPride and Gays in general with the usual religious right rants and was booed off the stage. The video is in the link.

I noticed that CPAC has invited some real pro-gay politicians as speakers at this years convention. Two standouts are Sen. Jim Demint, who believes gays and lesbians should not be permitted to teach children, and former Sen. Rick Santorum, who equated homosexuality with bestiality and pedophilia if I remember correctly. http://www.conservative.org/cpac/
