Here's where we really need a word besides homophobic, so that "phobia/phobic" can go back to meaning fear/fear of, and we can communicate more clearly.

What she really is, is homomiseic, which like homophobic is an abbreviation. While phobic, from Greek phobeo (fo-bey-oh), means being afraid of, miseic,, from Greek miseo (iz-ay-oh), means having hate towards. So using narrow definitions, it's hard to know if she afraid of gays -- but there's no doubt whatsoever that she hates.

Those camps I visited decades after the atrocities occurred will haunt me until the day I die. Claiming blindly what "God would do" is ridiculous. After all if "God" is going to provide a way not to lie, then maybe he would have found a fucking way, to make sure the goddamn killing of 7 million Jews, Gays, political prisoners, professors, doctors, and others didn't happen in the first place. I remember from visiting Birkenau in 2005 that it was way too big for people to be ignorant of it. I think she would have gone with the rest of the cowards and cried behind closed curtains.

People don't need God to make things right. They need to make things right for and by themselves.

I think what stunned me most when I first toured some of the camps, and especially Aushwitz - Birkenau was that only a very small group of German Nazis were at the camp at any one time. Much of the "security", "day-to-day management of the camps", and other administration was that it was done by prisoners.

When the train cars would start unloading, and hungry, scared, Jews and other prisoners were asking the "managers" offloading them, fellow Jews / gays / professors / etc.. if everything was going to be ok, these people had to lie, and calm their fears. If these "managers" didn't do as they were told, they would be forced to watch their other family members raped, tortured, and killed and then they themselves killed slowly. What a goddamn mindfuck! If there is such a thing as Satan, he walked the Earth in those camps, I have no doubt.

More importantly, how could any of us now sit in judgement of what someone did there to stay alive and keep their family alive? I can't imagine. As our tour guide explained himself, "he hoped he would have done the right thing, but there is no way to know until you are forced into an impossible situation, under impossible stress and pressure".

Just thinking about those hellholes and what I saw, I still get chills down my spine, even right now. Yuck!

When I took a couple of friends to Aushwitz - Birkenau (who had never been to a camp before) and said to them that it will be one of the most awful, moving, nauseating, experiences they will have ever had. They (as I had originally) thought, "I know what happened and how terrible it is, I am mentally prepared". After a couple of hours, the sheer look of horror on their faces, and not uttering a word told me what I already knew. There is simply nothing you can do to prepare yourself for what you see, can touch, and feel, and breathe the air those same victims did.

I'm so glad I went to those camps but I never, ever, never, want to go back to them again. Ever. It's hard to explain to anyone that hasn't been there in the person. Movies and TV shows do not prepare you for the stark reality you will face in person. I feel the same way about the Peace Museum in Hiroshima, and the hell on Earth you see from unleashing nuclear weapons on a civilization. It's just as haunting, only in a slightly different way.

I remember crying some 2 days after I had been through Dachau, just "out-of-the-blue". It had been working on my psyche that long, and I just couldn't ignore the murder, torture, rape, and utter hate, any longer.
