Is there any small free anti virus software around ?

I don't like Norton. It is just too big and very very slow.

^ ooo, this is the first time I've heard of Kapersky.

I'll definitely look into using that instead of avast! . The great think I like about avast is I've never had any problems with it.

I used to be a former Norton user too, but only because it came free with my PC when I purchased it. ;)

I tend to use Micrsoft Security Essentials myself. But I have setup the free version of Avast for a friend, no issues there. Norton is fucking bloated, expensive, and ineffective shit.

If you don't mind paying for antivirus the only 1 I'd pay for is ESET's NOD32 @ http://www.eset.com/ Shop around to get the best price.

I downloaded Avast, and it works!! i downloaded it yesterday and i found 5 virus on my laptop! it is very free

I use Avast too. It was recommended by a techie friend; it removed a couple of viruses when I first installed it and has preveted one or two more getting through since. Seems fine and it's completely free.

^Yeah but you only get a limited trial don't you (Avast)?

No. Avast is completely free for personal home use. They have a pay version with bells and whistles but there's no need. They do ask you to register. I've used it for years and am completely satisfied. I've never received any spam as a result of registering nor had any problems. It is fast, non-invasive and highly reliable.

Another vote for Avast as a free solution and if you want to pay, NOD32.

i just installed Avast.
So easy to use and so far so good. I'm happy with it. :)
Also Avast recommend Chrome Google browser, i had a quick look and the browser works fine. I might use both Firefox and chrome.

NOD32 is still abit complicated with warning and everything ...

Avast here. I started out with AVG but it started to suck and then I went with AVAST and it was awesome. Then I decided to go with Microsoft Security Essentials, and it worked for a while but updates pushed through windows update, and one day it broke and I had to reformat. Back to AVAST.

I've heard if you're gonna pay, Eset NOD32 is the way to go.

Ok - installed Avast avut it says there is only a 30 day trial...

Hmmm...is slowing down system - the little orb thingie for Avast never stops spinning and there's an annoying voice pop-up saying my software has been updated.

Did you register? It does not cost any $ to register, you just have to register.

When you first install it, it will do a system scan, all AV's do that, so the icon will spin until it is finished.

I hate the the voice pop-up too, so I turned it off.

^ What he said.

Once you register it's basically free for life. It'll just keep telling you to update your subscription once a year iirc.

Yeah I found AVAST a useful Anti-virus program I have been using it for years, only time I had issues is when someone hacked the updates and made it to where the program deleted important files and said they were trojans.
