All over it. In my pillowcase. No.

I've dealt successfully with ants before without lures or chemicals because of the cats. One method is time consuming, and the other is pleasantly sadistic but very effective.

I don't have time for either of them. I'll probably be sleeping in the living room tonight. Drag my mattress out there and put it in front of the TV. I do that every once in a while...it's like being at the drive in.

Unless you think.....they're not coming from my mattress are they? How can I tell?

I do not eat in bed, ever. Occasionally I may eat in front of the computer which is across the room from the bed, but I have never seen them in that area. I had a small infestation last year near the dresser which is at the foot of the bed.

I don't know where they are coming from. There were clusters at both the head and foot of the bed, but more near the head. I put some oreo cream and peanut butter in two spots to see if I get them to make a trail. And in this case, I may pick up some ant lures/traps and make sure to keep the kitten out of the bedroom.

If anyone has any ideas or if I forgot something, please let me know.

What kind of ants are they? My house is on a slab so I’ve always had a problem with them each spring. I use terro bait and put it in places the cats can’t get to. I get the little red ants. I haven’t seen any yet this year but I put some traps in the lower cabinets, under the microwave cart and behind the fridge. I also put one in the bathroom cabinet.

I have been successful in repelling ants using sprigs of peppermint in the past; this was after reading about it somewhere. They don't like it at all; so if you do manage to find the spot where they're entering into your place, place a bunch of peppermint leaves there or even spray around it with peppermint oil.

Other remedies I've read about but not tried are black or cayenne pepper (sprinkled in the ants' entrance points); white vinegar diluted with water used as a spray (this is also suggested as a cleaning solution on surfaces throughout the house as the underlying ant-repelling properties will remain active on the surfaces for some time after application and the ants won't want to venture near); and even coffee grounds (something about the ants hating the texture of them).

They're black and medium sized. Like Fabs. Don't know what kind which is why I used both protein and sugar as a lure.

I will try to use peppermint. I've found that vinegar doesn't work. Besides, that's what I use to clean my floors. Can't use coffee because of the kitten.

Haven't seen them since I vacuumed up the first batch. Might they not be back? No takers on the lures, either.

Thanks for the advice.

At least they are not in your pants

I use Terro. very affective.

Help!!!!!

How would one go about getting an anteater out of their house?

We will usually get them in the kitchen right after cleaning, and it irks the ever loving shit out of me! I mean you clean to prevent pests not invite them in for lunch! We did some caulking and put an ant trap on the outside of the ledge that generally seems to quell them! We would also get them in the living room and some caulking around the baseboard helped there too! You know here is a thought try cleaning your ducts maybe the cats have dropped some food in the air ducts especially if they are on the floor maybe thats where they are coming in from!

Every few years we have a bunch turn up in the house.

The worst part is that the little fuckers actually tunnel through rigid insulation and reduce the R value.

We did finally put out ant traps, but for about a month, every morning I would sweep up about a hundred that had gathered and cart them outside to live free.

Yeah, it's probably old cat treats.

Wow. What a beauty.

. . . .

Best get that cleaned up. You wouldn't want someone climbing in bed with you thinking those are moldy stray dingle berries.

Found one lone ant an hour ago. Singed it with a lighter and let it writhe in agony. This will signal to the other ants that my bedroom is not hospitable territory.

There's different types of ants. This time of year, they are coming out of the ground in search of food. Some are looking for sugar. Some are looking for cellulose. Some are looking for weird stuff like toothpaste or products that have a fragrance. The Terro baits (which are sugar and borax) will work if enough of them take the bait. Your best bet is to find their mound and kill off the queen so that she won't make more ants.

To answer your earlier question: ants can live in mattresses although this time of year, it's more likely they have mound outside your house and they are roving in search of food to bring back to the mound.

If you have a magnifying glass, catch some on a piece of tape and take a closer look at them. Figuring out which type they are will help you figure out what they're after and how to get rid of them.

Vinegar is an ant repellent but the problem is that a) you have to spray it everywhere or they will just go around it or b) you have to keep refreshing the vinegar which isn't pleasant if they are in your bedroom.

Get yourself one of these:

Oh please don't start another circumcision debate. *%%*

^

I'll check. I haven't seen any more yet, not like Sunday. Just one or two, here and there. I singe them with a lighter and let them writhe around in pain and then die. Savage little fucks. I think I read that injured ants call out either chemically or sonically to the rest of the colony. Otherwise, if I find a trail I can stop them with my chocolate chip cookie genocide solution. On top of that, I will be unleashing my brand new kitten from the spare bedroom in a couple weeks. The ants are doomed.

Just be happy you don't have bed bugs :)

I get the odorous house ant. They’re a pain in the ass. They really like pet food too. They’ll swarm a food bowl.

Pray you never encounter crazy ants. They spew acid and love to infest electronics like phones, computers, etc.

^ or Fire ants. They have stingers.
