I just killed an ant and i feel kinda bad about it even though it may have been intentional :(.

Ants are such interesting little creatures. Here the ant was just going about its duty for the queen and out of no where a finger comes down and squashes it :(. Its reallly sad, because it could have had a family, or what if it was a young ant on his first mission to find food and bring it back to the colony?

It's not the ants fault that i left food lying around, he doesnt know any better. I leave the food around, then the ant comes in and i get upset because i have ants and then i try to eradicate the ants.

When i was younger we used to take a maginfying glass and fry the poor little ants. Then i started to think what if i were an ant, how would i feel if a human tried to maginify my existence. So i stopped that because i imagine it to be a horrible way to die even for an ant.

Everytime you walk you probaby are stepping on an ant but you dont really think about it.

You know whats cool though. The ants are a community, its a family unit. I killed an ant and the dead body was there and within minutes another ant came and took the dead ant away i assume back to the colony for a proper burial.

Ants are tiny but im sure they feel too so lets look out for the little guys ok.

I actually do take pity on ants. They're kind of adorable and I figure that when one is walking on my kitchen counter, it's way in over its head anyway, so I let it go. Though I do enjoy putting obstacles in its way to see it climb over.

I really do feel bad when I kill certain bugs, though :(

That's because ants collect and 'bury' (or place in rows) their dead.

Quite fascinating creatures, if you ask me. Sometimes in summer I'll sit outside with tidbits of food and watch the ants come and collect it and take it into their houses.

Like luminum, I feel bad about killing bugs too. Most of the time if I find a bug in the house (even those big nasty tarantula-looking wolf spiders) I'll catch them and put them outside. Now, if a wasp gets in the house, he's a goner. Not that they're any less significant, but once I swatted at a wasp that was in my house and the bastard came right at me and stung me on the bare shoulder. So I grabbed my flyswatter and chased it down and beat the shit out of it in the front doorway, lol.

All's fair in love and war.

But hes got high hopes, hes got high hopes
Hes got high apple pie, in the sky hopes

So any time your gettin low
stead of lettin go
Just remember that ant
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant

Ants can carry 10*s its body weight. I like watching them carry food all tipsy although sometimes i do flick the food away from them and watch them go and get it. Its like when you play fetch with the turtle.

Whenever you blow on an ant, they freeze in one psoition. Thats a cool mechanism they have build in.

And also i notice that an ant never passes another ant without rubbing their antenna (is it that) on each other. Its like they are saying hello. Just being poilte.

Well , I must be the cold hearted one here because I KILL any and all bugs that come within the confines of my home , including the garage .... including ants.

Newboy12....awhile back The Discovery Channel had a really cool feature about ants. They really are amazing creatures that I never thought much about until I saw that. If interested, you might want to check Discovery's website and see if there is anything there about it or if they plan to show it again. Ants have one of the most sophisticated social structures in all of the bug world. They showed a procession of ants that was over a mile long!!

I too would prefer they not come into the house but know they are just hungry. Here in Florida it's a problem during the rainy season because they try to come in to avoid the rain. I am NOT fond of their relatives...the FIRE ANTS! They are red in color. They do bite and can put you in the hospital. Nasty little creatures but also have a sophisticated social structure.

ever gone camping and had ant in the sleeping bag who loves you baby

Ants don't live very long and some types bite and bite hard...

Yes, but we'll stick with the tiny black ones.

Seriously, though, their social system is amazing and fierce.
