LOVE Armistead Mopin (sp).........Tales of the city. The whole series is amazing.
Also, not specificaly homo but very ambiguous are the vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.

the first book i bought with a gay theme was

The Front Runner by Patricia Nell Warren

woo nice...any more...??? all of them sounds interesting !!!!

If you are into fantasy ---The Heritage of Hastur by Marion Zimmer Bradley---was great. Many of her Darkover novels have a gay theme. I also liked the The Last Hearld Mage books by Mercedes Lackey.

Clay's Way by Blair Mastbaum. And you can go to Amazon.com, go to their book section and on the left hand side is a link to click for gay/lesbian themed books.

Boy's Own Story by Edmund White (Gay life at the beginning):

The Little Death by Michael Nava (Gay crime mystery):

^ yea

"a boys own story "

a good book

thanks for reminding me of it

Any book by Christopher Rice, yes he is the openly gay son of the vampire novelist Anne Rice.

William Burroughs:
The Ticket That Exploded
Nova Express
The Wild Boys

It's sort of a trilogy but The Wild Boys is the best, and a bit like science fiction.

For something more classic, check out Gore Vidal's "Myron" or "Myra Breckenridge". For classical literature, read Petronius - Satyricon.

A lot of D.H. Lawrence's writings seem to have gay themes. He admitted to having an affair with a Cornish farmer, and was also quoted as saying, "I believe the nearest I've come to perfect love was with a young coal-miner when I was about sixteen." In Women In Love there is a definite gay relationship developing, and the short story The Fox is about two lesbians, or one lesbian and a bisexual partner who has to choose between a woman and a man. I highly recommend the movies of both of these works.

Tom Spanbauer's newest novel, Now is the Hour, just came out in paperback.

The first gay themed, non-porn novel I ever read, Quatrefoil by James Barr.

Then, for something a little lighter, The Lord Won't Mind By Gordon Merrick.

The Front Runner ~ Patricia Nell Warren
Dream Boy ~ Jim Grimsley
The Soccer Field Is Empty ~ Mark Roeder
Desert Sons ~ Mark Kendrick
The Peter and Charlie Trilogy ~ Gordon Merrick
Cry To Heaven ~ Anne Rice
The Erotic Adventures of Sleeping Beauty ~ Anne Rice
Invisible Life ~ E. Lynn Harris
Metes and Bounds ~ Jay Quinn

Tales of the City series - Armistead Maupin - one of the funnest reads you'll ever have. I still think this should be required reading for every young gay male.
The City and the Pillar - Gore Vidal
Dancer from the Dance - Andrew Holleran
Like People in History - Felice Picano

R. D. Zimmerman's "Todd Mills" series is fantastic. Michael Nava is a terrific author, so his "Henry Rios" series is definitely recommended. Michael Craft is also in the mystery genre, more fun than hardcore, but I love the "Mark Manning" series. I haven't ventured into the spin off series yet, unfortunately.

I just finished The Brothers Bishop by Bart Yates. Now I really want to read his Leave Myself Behind

What kind of books are you into, though? There are so many sub-genres in gay men's literature these days.

I haven't had much time for reading lately but the last two gay themed books that I read were Clay's Way by Blair Mastbaum, and The World of Normal Boys by K.M. Soehnlein. Both were very good books. As somebody already said, check out Amazon books. They have many gay/lesbian titles and reader responses to help guide you.

I really enjoyed A Home at the End of the World by Michael Cunningham, Boys Like Us by Patrick Merla, and How I Learned to Snap by Kirk Read.

They're all pretty much different genres and deal with different topics, but the Cunningham novel deals with much darker undertones than the other two. They're all great reads though.
