Seems that I've heard, only in recent years, that Medellin is reasonably safe, and the pictures I've seen of the city are beautiful. I'd say, GO AHEAD AND GO.
"Safe" of course doesn't mean that there's immunity from anything bad happening. Just be careful, like any other large city you'd visit.
