I wake up sneezing and having to consyantly blow my nose. My nose continues to be runny and I continue to sneeze when I am on the toilet.

But as soon as I take a shower, no more sneezing and runny nose.

If I don't take a shower, I will continue to sneeze and have runny nose the whole morning.

Why does the shower make it go away?

Because it is about irritants.

And often, how dry the nose is when you wake up.

A hot shower can unplug the nasal passages.

Do you keep a filthy house ?

Might be dust in the air.

I'm a writer, not a doctor, but I'd agree with rareboy. My nose (and it's 80+ years old) tends to be stuffy when I wake up, but clears when I get active. And this winter my nose seems to require handkerchief use all day long. I've had a flu shot and have not yet had any real colds or infections or felt otherwise sick. Just a nuisancy nose and throat.

If I recall, you are in the construction business, and if so, you may be taking in more than your share of irritants.

Is it just in the winter or year round?

It is sinus drainage, perhaps from allergies but as we age, our immunity declines. You might try Clariton antihistamine to see if allergies decline. If you had a cat, that would be a good guess. If i am around a cat, i begin to have symptoms, and a shower solves the problem if the cat is not around. So it does sound like an allergy to me.

When your sinuses are running it is a reaction caused by histamines reacting to an allergen. Try taking antihistamines before you go to sleep. They will help you sleep and you should wake up in better shape.

The steam in your morning shower helps to sooth your sinus passages and this keeps your sytom from producing more histamines.

I clicked the thread expecting a discussion on morning wood. Haha

Carry on.
