I was a Prospective Ordinand until I was about 21, and then I decided not to continue - mainly due to the fact that I refused to take the biblical 'tales' literally, prefering instead, to concentrate on the message behind them - which is far more important than whether Mary was a virgin or not!

Either. Whether she was a virgin is immaterial. Her virginity was simply another prop to help reinforce how special her son was going to be.
