Captcha is those weird looking letters and numbers you have to type in to convince the Internet that you're not a robot. Sounds great in theory, but I just can't figure out the fucking things. Sometimes I have to try 3 or 4 times before I get one right. Am I alone here?

Kinda. When I can't decipher the first, I hit the refresh icon it provides until I get one I can read.

A non-issue at best, a minor annoyance at worst.

I'm sorry but I have to completely disagree with you. It is a major issue when it takes 10 or more tries to get into a website because of a captcha that is literally in a foreign computer language. That qualifies as a major annoyance. I say we should get rid them, those darn gotchyas!

I'm glad we can have the difference of opinion then, but until someone develops a better way to keep bots out, you've got captcha. I've never had an explicit problem with it.

I can't stand it.

I'll try again and again and again to get into sites without success.

I don't know if captcha keeps out the bots. But it sure is effective at keeping out humans.

I fully agree with the above statement of Mygaybuffet. We need to got rid of them, and as soon as possible. Mostly, they are used by people / companies who don't like to receive e-mails as well (noreply@idontlikeemails.com)

Best wishes.

I find them to be annoying. I just deal with it and move on.

If I don't get it on the second try, I say the hell with it. and move on. I go to something else.

That's exactly my point! You shouldn't have to! It's equivalent to a store asking youi for a password that's wriiten on top of the building in order for you to enter.

I thought it was like...mandatory for anyone on the interwebz to hate captcha?

No.

An owner of a non-commercial website refuses to talk with me anymore, because I told him again and again that he will receive less information / data because he has started to use the whole captcha thing.

All of his friends agree with him and one of his friends (all ppl very active on internet) calls me 'a small kid who must stop with argueing'.

I utterly adore Captcha with all my heart and soul. :luv2:

Why, if t'weren't for the sheer unbridled joy of encountering a cute little Captcha here, there, and everywhere I would've given up trawling the inter-world-net-wide-web many years ago. :help:

I hate the ones that are symbols...and not actually letters or numbers. It happened one time, and I had to refresh. Then my internet crapped out on me.

You think these are bad, you should see a Borg access code. ;)

But seriously, I DO hate those Captcha's with a passion.

Gods yes!!!!

Most of them aren't real words and I'll be even more pissed if they made it case sensitive.

Sometimes the option for visually disabled people works by saying the letters, others are a bunch of beebs.

I just do not understand why they are often so difficult to read or understand.
I get the idea is to be sure it is a person rather than a machine or what have you but why make it almost impossible in some cases to decipher what the charactors are?

I can give you various reasons why this is the case.

(1): owners of a commercial website with such a difficult entrance only want to do business with people who are tough enough to pass these difficulties.

(2): owners of a non-commercial website with with such a difficult entrance don't like to recieve alot of e-mails from people like you and me, but only want to have contact with people who are tough enough to pass these difficulties.

(3): webdesigners of a website with with such a difficult entrance don't know how to change almost impossible to decipher characters into easy-to-read characters (and/or are too lazy, and/or lack knowledge).

Etc.

They were a lot easier back when they were first introduced so there was no problem with them, but now it's like trying to decipher hieroglyphics.
