Anybody remember the Watergarden in San Jose, CA?

I'd like to hear your hot stories from the tubs era.

I briefly shared the garden home of Watergarden co-owner, Sal Accardi and his latin lover whose name I cannot remember right now.

never went there but a friend took to a bath house in S.F. all I remember is that is was known as 8th & Howard. I was 18/19 and boy what a experiance that was . It was alot of fun and scary at the same time.

Nope, just the ones in San Francisco proper.

I still remember a straight, female friend of mine in college complaining about how the parking in her neighborhood was much more heavily used on weekend nights. After a while she figured out it was guys going to the Berkeley Steamworks which was just down the street.
 
I remember it very well, I spent many happy hours there. Glad to hear it's still open.

After the "gay establishment" of San Francisco caved in to puritanical panic and closed down all the bathhouses there in the early years of the AIDS crisis (of course they never actually did anything about the underground sex clubs)... where was I?

Oh yeah, the Watergarden was an oasis of civilized promiscuity, very active in promoting safe sex education.

They had a very nice outdoor pool, as well as a really cool aviary (if I remember correctly). A lot of afternoon trade from nearby Silicon Valley businesses.

Stories? Well actually, I don't remember it being a particularly great place for orgies -- the public areas weren't arranged right for some reason. Most of the action took place in the private rooms. I think most of the Asian men I've "had" were there...

Doesn't surprise me. The Watergarden really did have a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, not like the frantic SF baths in their heyday -- like the 4th St. baths, subsequently converted into a homeless shelter! Where for some reason they decided punk rock was the most erotic form of Muzak...

That's true, but the "room" is just a small cubbyhole with only room enough for a small bed and a little table with a lamp on it.

I've only been to one gay sauna in Europe -- in The Hague of all places, but as I recall they did have beds you could pull a curtain around to give yourself some privacy. Kind of like a hospital ward...

And they closed at 11 pm! Which is the hour when most American baths are just getting started.
