Anyone else play Rugby at school or college?

I played Rugby (or “Rugger” as we called it) throughout my time at my very traditional boys’ boarding school in England and as a young man at college. I still have a few injuries (war wounds) from those days that flare up occasionally. Overall it did me good although I probably spent too much time on sport and not enough on other creative activities.

Anyway, I wondered whether there were any other former or present Rugby (or “Rugger”) players here? Or anyone who played and hated it - if so please say why?

I was made to play it for a time at school. I absolutely hated team sports of any kind (still do) and the violence, mud, cold and general tediousness of rugby was a complete turn off. As soon as they realised I was never going to be any good, or even attempt to be any good, I was allowed to take the cross country running option instead. That basically meant an hour away from school completely unsupervised. We'd usually go to someone's house who lived nearby and watch TV!
