Anyone else 'Waiting for Google'?

Not really a problem. More of a rant.

For the past few weeks, I have spent a lot of time as pages in JUB are loading simply 'Waiting for Google'.

The page hangs up for a number of seconds and has even taken more than a minute. Whatever JUB is waiting for Google to do, it's not doing it in a timely fashion.

Anyone else getting hung up on Google?

On a side note, I'm getting a lot of 'Connection Reset' messages as well.

I haven't seen any messages about Google, but I HAVE been getting quite a few "connection reset" error messages in the past two weeks.

The 'Google' thing happens quite regularly, though.

I too see the "Waiting for Google" messages, and I've always wondered just WHAT it's waiting for, and WHY?

I've been getting totally pissed off with it. Every click was taking 10 seconds or more as it refreshed everything and then spent ages waiting for Google. I re-started yesterday and everything speeded up but now it is all slowing up again. I suspect this is a symptom of the "you don't get something for nothing" policy that rules the world today. I have enjoyed my time here but suspect it will not continue for much longer despite the fact that I paid to upgrade myself.

I seem to have disabled that with Adblock in fierfox.

I can't seem to find that. Do you mean 'Pop-up Blocker'?

If you are using Firefox, try disabling Javascript. With some web pages, it makes a significant reduction in the time for a page to load. But some things might not work right. I have the QuickJava add on which makes it a snap to turn Javascript on and off.

Anyway - if people need 10 seconds to load a page here - there is something wrong on your end. I get the waiting for google from time to time, too - but never that long. AND while I am "waint for google" the page already loads and I can read the thread.
Oh .. and I don't think this is a DNS issue, because google's IPs are cached in virtually any DNS.

That's my problem. Nothing happens as long as the 'Waiting for Google' line shows on the status bar.

Why would it be dangerous to have AdBlock running? I read several pages of the comments and found only one complaint which doesn't even apply to me. What is the danger?

There is no danger in adBlock - there is much danger in running around with IE6

I don't have any issue resolving google quickly, but the reason you are seeing this is because JUB uses Google Analytics to track page views and traffic. http://www.google.com/analytics/ is a pretty nice tool, I know because the company I work for uses it too.
