Been through a lot in the last year. I was seeing a psychiatrist, but moved cities, and haven't bothered finding someone here. They really didn't know what they were doing because at first they said t was BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) Which is what I think I have.

Then they changed it to Bi polar and OCD. I would say its BPD and OCD.

I am fine right now, and have been great for the last month or so. Still have mood swings and agitation, and that occasional thought of suicide, but nothing serious.

I think im going to find someone this week and see what they can do- maybe meds. I just want to be better completely. This ruined a relationship I had (I guess for the better! because he was a user and abuser) but the point is:

How do you guys deal with your mental illness? Im curious as to ideas and experiences :)

as anyone would, as best they know how. learning new skills to manage stress, staying hopeful, recognizing changes in mood, etc.

i am not a psychiatrist or therapist but i can speak from observation. it sounds like you have a good plan in place. its good you got out of an abusive relationship. bpd vs bi-polar is a complex subject. bpd is a behavior while bi-polar is a biological function in the brain as i understand it.

these things mimic each other, but i think a contrast between personality and biological functioning is if you have the symptoms of depression that leads to these suicidal thoughts. judging from your post i would lean towards borderline, since you don't seem to believe suicidal thoughts are serious.

i dont think people are actually suicidal unless they slip into depression, because there is no way of knowing anything is different if you have always been-bi polar. im not downplaying your suicidal thoughts because they are serious, however there seems to be a separation between emotion and biology that express themselves at different times, so it would be important to not have this shifting between borderline and bi-polar at this point.

going back and forth between diagnosis isnt going to help if they cant say what it is. to stop this going back and forth i would just eat healthy, exercise even if your fit, manage your stress etc. a well documented way to fight off those swings to depression is eating lots of fish with omega 3, which is good for your brain, to smooth out those highs and lows.

good luck, with enough patience you can spend less time worrying about everyday ups and downs!

The symptoms you describe is not mental illness.

Anxieties are a normal response in the life of every human person.

Do not elevate your responses to stress into an imaginary illness.

Learn to manage your tendencies to over react to any given stimuli.

You can control your responses by simply training your self to think before you respond. In other words take your time before reacting to any given set of circumstances; even choosing not to respond when your ego drives you to defend your sense of self importance. Teach your self to exercise control over your urges to lash out, judge and condemn people.

Spend an hour of your day, every day in silence, without the intrusion of other people, noise or any thing that will disturb your sense of peace. De-stress and endeavour to respond to your life's challenges in a much more measured, and peaceful manner.

Thank you! (*8*) I will definitely try those all out!

Thank you for your help, but those are not all my symptoms, and yes in fact I do have a mental illness, otherwise they wouldn't have kept me in a psychiatric ward for a week and then later diagnosed me with a mental illness.

Then what are your other symptoms?

A psychiatric evaluation is not proof of mental illness.

Your rather confused, and confusing list of personality conditions is not evidence of mental illness; more of your confused state of mind, hoping to identify your emotionally disturbed state, with fashionable medical jargon that presumes to describe a depressed personality.

Wow.

Just wow.

Before you unravel and find yourself in crisis, you need to get to CAMH somehow and get linked up with someone who can help follow through on your mental health care.

I look at the pics of the smiling dude in the other forum and find it difficult to reconcile with the guy writing here about occasional thoughts of suicide as nothing serious.

You are the person most in charge of your own good mental health and it is an investment you want to make and then nurture in order to live the richest and most fulfilled life possible.

Good luck. Oh. And try to also find a family doc too. Hard I know, but the last thing you want is to be only seen in the Emerg department of any hospital.

And Kallilopolis....while your heart may be in the right place....you are not. You shouldn't be trying to second guess other health care providers by negating the possibility of a mental illness. So stop it. You could end up doing great harm by discouraging anyone from seeking proper attention.

What is CAMH?
You are so sweet, thank you (*8*)
I do have a family doctor, as healthcare is free here, but it takes about a month to get an appointent. Going for a checkup tomorrow though :-)

It would benefit you to get a second opinion. BPD is not a common diagnosis and it is a very difficult diagnosis to make.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Sorry...I meant to post the link.

Thanks, Kara.
