I just rent out my room to such a person (he is straight age 21).
He said he has ADHD, depression (attempted suicides) and schizophrenia (hearing voices ...) and smoke alot. He seems nice and friendly.

Please write about your experience if you know or live with such a person.
Thanks.

You seem like a good match.

He sounds like a lot to take on. Are you sure you can handle any problems that might arise?

Not sure but so far, it is fine and i'm willing to help as long as it doesn't effect me.
I have heard this type of person would normally be homeless and i'm willing to help.
He told me his story, sounds like he came from a very dysfunctional family.

He didn't tell me before he rented out the room.

Time will tell how it goes, but it's nice that you are providing him with a place to rent. No one should be homeless. Good luck, Telly. Let us know if you start hearing voices, too.

LOL, i won't and i can guaranteed it.
I don't take any type of drugs or alcohol ...... :)

The smoking would bother me, but smoking rates are high in persons who have a mental illness, also high in psychiatrists, and some research shows that smoking does help with mental illness (unfortunately causing physical illness). But I think you are fine, schizophrenia varies greatly and remits and relapses, it's not always the way you see it portrayed in media.

yeah,
at first, i was concerned. He have so many problems in his life at such a young age.
I'm concern about the fact that he doesn't trust medications and he would put them all in the bin. He said its about mind over matter and medication would not help him.

And i said how about anti-biotics, it worked for me to get rid of infections, he said it won't work for him, he won't trust anti-biotics either ...

i found this on the net.
Quote:
What causes Schizophrenia?
The causes of schizophrenia are not fully understood. They are likely to be a combination of hereditary and other factors. It is probable that some people are born with a predisposition to develop this kind of illness, and that certain things — for example, stress or use of drugs such as marijuana, LSD or speed — can trigger their first episode.

How many people develop Schizophrenia?
About one in a hundred people will develop schizophrenia at some time in their lives. Most of these will be first affected in their late teens and early twenties.

How is Schizophrenia treated?
Treatment can do much to reduce and even eliminate the symptoms. Treatment should generally include a combination of medication and community support. Both are usually essential for the best outcome.

Medication
Certain medications assist the brain to restore its usual chemical balance. This then helps reduce or get rid of some of the symptoms.
Community support programs
This support should include information; accommodation; help with finding suitable work; training and education; psychosocial rehabilitation and mutual support groups. Understanding and acceptance by the community is also very important.

Sorry but I'd keep my distance from this guy. Mentally ill people who quit their medication or self-medicate are a tired cliche. It's now only a matter of weeks / few months before he will freak you out or will seek to harm himself again.

That doesn't help me much, but thanks for the warning.
I hope to read more about people who have experienced with schizophrenia.

From what I have read, the biggest problem with people who suffer from schizophrenia is when they decide to stop taking their meds for whatever reason. You can be of great help to him, but if he goes off his medication, there isn't very much you will be able to do.

He might need some attentions from you. As part of the depression goes ( I suffered a mild depression back then ), all they need is a person who listens.

I hope this is the case. And yeah he talks and i listens.
He is in his rooms most of the time playing computer games, listen to music and rest as he can't be still (ADHD).
