I"m just curious..of those of you who may have watched the Grammys last night...is it just me, or were they sorely lacking in exciting performances? I love music, but I found watching that last night more of a chore than entertainment.

I saw it and loved the performances but hated the fact that Amy Wino won 5 Grammy Awards.

I enjoyed the Grammy's because I knew it was their 50th and they were trying to honor as many greats as they could. But more importantly...no Justin Timberlake to fuck up the entire show.

Well..on that point, I have to agree. I guess I was hoping to see some of my personal favorites. But, you're right, they did at least avoid putting acts on the stage that had no reason to be there in the first place.

As a lifelong Herbie Hancock fan (well, OK, since I turned 13), I'm blown away and excited as hell that he won album of the year. I wouldn't call it his best album, necessarily. When I saw he was doing a Joni Mitchell tribute album, I rolled my eyes. I don't like Joni much, and I don't like tribute albums at all. But this album is really good. It made me sort of reconsider my stance on Joni. And that's something no other tribute album really has ever done for me.

Ever since Madonna writhed around in a wedding dress on the MTV Music Awards (hey, Herbie won a bunch of awards there, too!), these award shows have moved away from "good bands with some good performances" to "moments". Must-sees. Soundbites. Whatever. Did you see Madonna tongue-kissing Britney, OMG, OMG? Things like that. I'd actually just like to see some good performances. I didn't watch last night (had to work) but heard the performances were at least good.

But Joni herself, a Grammy fav, released a really good CD this past year that they ignored.

Too much crap to wallow through to get to the few great moments, coulda taped it but why bother.

The Herbie Hancock win was surprising. And I do think Amy had the best performance of the evening. And the whole "moments" thing that Lex pointed out is very true as well. And, yes, it is a bit ironic about Joni.

I thought Amy absolutely killed it...that's the best i've EVER seen her perform...if she tours the US soon I'd actually buy tix this time cause last time I was afraid I was just gonna waste my money on it cause she'd be shitfaced and it would suck or she would just cancel

she sounded and looked great!

I personally think Beyonce and Tina Turner where awesome!! WOW!!! Tina should so tour or do somthing again.. i will always remember her last show at Wembley ... WOW!!! prob the best concert i went to at Wembley Stadium!!! the women is a total legend!!

Im so happy for AMY!!! She Deserved Every award!!! Im still a little Bitter about her Losing Album of The Year to Herbie Hancock, but 5 grammy award in one night!!! That is One Hell of an Accomplishment!!! So Yay For Her!!!

Hopefully this makes her reevaluate her life, and she gets it in order!!!

Im sure Amy Will Win Many Grammys to Come!!!

I'm happy for Amy and I'm happy that almost everyone else is happy for her too.

It's nice to give people a 2nd chance. :D

>>>It's nice to give people a 2nd chance.

By giving them Best New Artist? :) Seems like the rise-and-fall-and-rise sure is happening a lot faster than it used to...

I thought it was a bore.

Beyonce and Tina sucked, though she looked damn good for 68.

Fergie sounded a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

Amy sounded a drunk, off-key mess (though I love her album)

Alicia & Frank were a snooze

Though I loved the performance with Alicia and John Mayer.

Kanye's too.

here are my thoughts

first :::
im suspicious ...
i know everyones gonna attack me for saying this but

remember his flip out at the VMAS for not winning any awards ... well notice how he won 2 or 3 last night ... i think the community felt bad & shit so they voted him to win .. ( although he has an amazing album .. but) i think he might have truned around somehing horrible into a publicity stunt

amy winehouse ... im not a fan .. but i was glad to see her get on her feet . ya know? i mean i gave her credit through the whole mess she was in (im a britney fan so i love crazy bitches) but when she won record of the year & everyone was cheering AMy! & she was hugging her mom & her group .. i was pratically crying .. she deserved every award .. i mean i dont know what was up with her some moments spazzing during her performance .. but it was still the best we've seen her ... amys making a comeback .. next one to come back .. BRITNEY!!

next, is it just me or is alicia keys getting really annoying .. even though i loved the whole frank sinatra thing..

next , fergie was amazing .. i love her & that song "finally"

Joni got a award for best pop instrumental performance.
I found a lot of people's dresses and hairs are just disaster.
it's getting worse year after year.
I love Amy's reaction after she won record of the year.

I thought the show as a whole was pretty dull.

I was really underwhelmed by Beyonce and Tina. I thought the performance seemed a little overreheased and stiff and lacked the gritty passion that "Proud Mary" is known for, although Beyonce's little mini-intro was hot and Tina looks incredible, and how many 68 year olds can still do what she does?

I thought Alicia Keys was really good. I'm always impressed with her.

I loved Amy Winehouse's reaction for Record of the Year. It was like a little girl, where you saw this actual innocent person within her, that's begging to claw through the drugs and alcohol. I'm really rooting for her to conquer her demons. With that said, I thought she was kind of flat in her performance (lots of energy and good presence though).

Kanye West gave a good performance. His sense of entitlement and arrogance will never appeal to me though, even if he does have my condolensces regarding the loss of his mother. And the best line of the night was Vince Gill's surprising little joke/dig at Kanye West when accepting his award.

I actually really liked Rihanna's performance and was sort of surprised by how good I thought she sounded.

I wasn't really surprised by any of the wins.

Alicia is getting stale for me...
Rihanna still can't sing good live...
Beyonce I think lip synced the first half of the performance and it looks awkward when she was dancing with Tina. And speaking of Tina, her legs still looks damn good, way better than Beyonce (I still love B tho)...
Kanye was so arrogant and I want to smack his face...
Feist was running out of breath...
Amy's reaction when she won was priceless...

Overall I think the whole show wasn't as exciting as the previous ones... No Christina or Mariah to wow the audience.

Amy Winehouse deserves those award.I never heard of her before.I was intrigued and captured by her music and style.I immediately bought her album thru itunes 10 minutes after she performed.
Listening to it today,I feel in love with her song "Love is a losing Game".I can not wait to see her in live performance, hopefully soon.

watched it! luvvveddd amy winehouse expression when she won for rota, priceless! she deserved it!

the best performance was beyonce & tina it was good to see tina pass the torch to beyonce, she is the only female artist to this date that can carry tina's legacy.

im glad kanye didn't jump on top of herbie hancock win he won for aoty.
